The trail starts off through a beautiful hardwood forest with an open feel with out any leaves on the trees. The grade begins as a steady, gentle incline and never gets very steep. At 3,000 feet the hard woods are replaced by evergreens, creating a cozy feel as you approach the summit of Starr King. The best views are from Starr King to the south overlooking a vast plain and the entire Presidential Range. The trail continues on at the large stone fireplace left from a former shelter. The summit of Waumbek is wooded, but the walk over from Starr King is beautiful. Winter parking is in two expansion lots just to the east and west of Starr King Road on Rt 2. https://goo.gl/maps/Qjf7RvwDb7R2TGCv5 The parking area is not plowed and you should not block Starr King Rd.

Trail is in good shape. A good hike to break in the legs. “Easy” by 4000 footer standards but definitely no joke! 4.5 hours with short breaks at each summit. The trip from Mount Starr to Waumbeck is short and you could easily drop your pack. Bugs at the bottom.

View and fire place at starr king was very cool

great hike, no bugs and well maintained trails...thank you very much Trail Tenders... definitely one of the easier 4K's...great view of the Prezis on Starr King...

One of the easier 4ks that's made worth it by the friendly resident Canada Jays!

Moderate out and back that starts with about 1.5 miles of steady climbing but levels out as you reach Starr King. Wooded but gorgeous. Waumbek isn’t much of a view but on a clear day you get great views of the Presidential Range from Starr King. Great for a solo or beginner hike.

VERY buggy toward the top and at the summit's of both Starr King and Waumbek. views of the Presidentials from just after the Waumbek summit were marvelous, though. it was very interesting for me to see them from this side, as I grew up on the opposite side of Washington. The hike itself was not challenging and the train is excellently maintained. Parking at the trailhead was tight (we arrived around 9am and took the second to last spot). I'd definitely recommend getting an early start just for the parking perk.

Gradual elevation climb. My first 4K... ouch!

Harder than we expected. Constant incline then constant decline. No real flat spots. The flys on this trail are horrible. This should be called the Amityville Hike.

started early, so missed a lot of the bugs. ended around 11 and you could tell they were starting to get back. trail started getting busy later in the afternoon. Dry, which was surprising compared to how wet Cabot was yesterday. overall great hike.

Early bird special..... less bugs in the early crisp air! More bugs as it got humid on the way down! Easy to find trail head. Well marked trails. No great views today- foggy. Wooded trail rated as moderate is accurate. 7.2 miles not 6.9. 1st carin is Mr Starr king on your right, keep going to the opening and chimney best view if there is one is from there. Another short mile to Waumbeck- wooded carin marking. Keep going just a little further for a clearing and you may get a view! Time was 4hrs - happy trails Ps- there was a bear and cub close to the parking on trail head today! Becareful

Very humid and very buggy. Got a dawn start and was off trail by about 10:30, hitting both peaks. Not too crowded and everyone was very polite and using proper social distancing. Lots of dogs who I feel sorry for because they don't under stand WHY they are not getting pets and love from the folks they meet on the trail. The views from Starr-King were OK, with some interesting undercast, but not the greatest.

Nice hike, couple of good views at the two summits.

Pretty basic 4K trail. Would consider the moderate rating accurate. Good to do on a rainy day as long as there’s no thunderstorms!

The trail conditions were great, and there were people working on the trail the day I hiked it. Thanks for the work you guys. It’s pretty much just a straight rocky old logging trail to the wooded summit. Not very thrilling, but up and back is a quick trip, so it’s good for exercise. Hike completed 29 AUG 19.

September 2016: Solid hike, fairly easy with a gradual incline. Gray jays kept us company. But from what I remember it was a beautiful, yet brisk fall day.

Fine hike if you're in the area. steady climb for first 1.5 miles then gets a bit less steep. Very enjoyable stop at Star King.

Pretty steady uphill the entire way! You don’t feel that alpine breeze until more than a mile in (so muggy and buggy). There’s a better view at Starr than at Waumbeck if I had to be honest. As other reviews have named the summit is a bit anti-climatic; so hike another 50-100 feet for a view of sorts. I would do lunch at Starr though!

Warm, humid hike today (6/20) with lots of bugs that made stopping anywhere quite annoying. Otherwise the trail was in great condition, a modest view is available just past the summit of Mt. Waumbek

Pretty good trail. Completed it under 3 hours. Parking lot surprisingly full on a Saturday. Dogs loved it. Limited views but nice short views of presidential range. Enjoyed the stream at the nice of a nice cool day.

Not a bad walk in the woods. Hot and buggy with a couple trees down. Not a lot of traffic. Moderate the whole way up.
