Went up Avalon - it’s a quick but steep climb. It’s been smoothed out a ton so it was challenging to get up. Tagged Avalon which is such a nice bang for the buck. Monorail gets thin and although you *might* not need snowshoes - I’d suggest them. Lots of post holing. We saw no one until coming back from willey and then it was non stop hikers. Conditions were ok and could be done with spikes for the majority of the hike. So many gray jays. Loved seeing them. It was a beautiful day on the mountains.

Mixed conditions! Took Avalon to Avalon and then headed over to A-Z. Skipped Willey but got Tom and Field. Snowshoes DEFINITELY needed for all but the last haul down from Tom. Gorgeous day and great views!

Well packed, just micro spikes but snowshoes would probably have been better. Steep up to Tom then slid down Avalon. Good day 4 peaks.

I only did Mt. Tom portion for a quick morning hike. I’ve hiked it before (and Field & Willey) but first time in winter. Recommend as a “starter” winter high peak hike. Summit was clouded in. Trail was well-packed.

So, so fun! Start with Tom and bring a butt sled or snow pants. And beware stepping off the path at all- you tend to sink.

Great trail. Pretty steep on the way up. This time of year spikes are barely keeping you going. Would recommend snow shoes, especially if it snows again and you’re thinking about going up soon. Had to drop Willey because the trail wasn’t holding up with the new powder. Views are ok, but this is a great way to knock off three 4ks. Weather was snowy but now too cold.

Tough but rewarding hike on Saturday 2/6. Trail was packed down going up Mt. Tom but then looser past Field up to Willey. Just under 6 hrs with only micro spikes, would definitely recommend snow shoes and poles if available. What should have been obvious looking at the map came as a surprise- you end up summiting Field twice. Butt sledding on the way down Mt. Avalon trail was killer! Several dogs on the trails enjoying themselves but think they were doing 1-2 peaks at most, would have been hard pressed to put my dog through this entire hike.

2-1-21 Path beaten down like a sidewalk, made for a quick and enjoyable hike. unfortunately that will change tonight with approaching nor'easter.

Awesome 4k summit tagging trail! If you have snowshoes with a heel lift it will save you some time and some calf pain, but I did do the entire thing in microspikes/crampons and survived. I definitely recommend hiking poles! They saved me from many thigh deep slips into snow on the side of the trail/general wipeoutage and are definitely the only reason I could get myself up some of those sleep inclines. I’d GO UP MT TOM FIRST and do it that way if I redid the trip because with snow/ski pants on the Avalon trail can practically be slid down totally on your bum which was super fun and easy on the knees (taking the A-Z trail first the trail to Mt. Tom, definitely looked like less steep of an incline)

Decently well packed the whole route. I only wore micro spikes but some were wearing snowshoes. I would bring both.
