We started our hike on Crawford's path to the summit of Mt. Pierce and took the loop around Mizpah hut and down. It's a fairly moderate hike with a hard climb at the top. Fall is the best time to hike up these mountains. You can't go wrong with the gorgeous views of autumn landscape, perfect weather, no mosquitoes and less crowded trails. The full hike took us a little over 6 hours and the views of Bretton woods, Mount Eisenhower, Monroe and washington was spectacular.

Great climb! A little above moderately challenging. Both Crawford path and the Mitzpah loop are well maintained. The views from the top are well worth the effort of the hike, though there aren't many vistas until you are almost there. Parking around the Highland center can be a bit of a challenge.

Awesome hike. Did this 14 weeks pregnant to the day this weekend (8/26) and it was definitely challenging. I wouldn't consider this hike "moderate" but it also isn't extremely hard. (It is labeled as moderate on the map we picked up at the campground) We made our ascent via Crawford Path but came down to the Mitzpah Hut which was a much better decision. It was very steep and rocky with decent drops most of the way. Tricky to navigate if you have short legs... or if you're pregnant. Over all GREAT hike though. Gorgeous day, clear view from all sides and a phenomenal view of Washington. After we have the baby we'll go back and hike the ridge too!
