A fun hike on a beautiful day. We all went thru the ladders, cave and rock ledges. A little challenging but well worth it. Trail is well marked and maintained - a big Thank You to whatever group does all the work. Near the end of Percival, we took the Morse connector trail to return to Morgan parking. Much better than walking along the narrow road. Total distance closer to 5.6 mi, consistent with other posts.

Great trail. Best views and a nice outlook are on mount Morgan. On the hike down from mount Percival, do stop by the “caves” and hike back up to the top again. Markings are not easy to spot at first, but the fun of slithering through small openings in the fallen rocks is worth it. After sunset be careful not to run into a porcupine lounging on the trail.

Fun, challenging hike, I would say on the harder side of moderate. A few points to keep in mind: 1) As others have pointed out, when descending Morgan to head over to Percival there is one particular left turn that's easy to miss. I led a very nice couple astray for a couple hundred yards ( sorry again guys!) 2) The ladders are NO joke, I chickened out after the first section and took the detour. 3) There is a separate parking lot for each mountain, thought I was returning to the Morgan lot but ended up at Percival so had to walk along the road a bit. Stay safe and be kind!

“It was mind boggling. It made me believe in god” - Ana, Allston 2020 “Scintillating views” Ayush, Brookline 2020 “Caves/ladders/rock ledges galore” Put on your hiking boots for this one!!! We took the caves route down and it was so much fun! Views are just breathtaking. There are two parking lots if the first one is full, drive down a few hundred feet for the next one.

Gorgeous hike! The climb up to Morgan is steady until the ladders and caves. Those were quite fun :) The whole way up (and then later down) was shady. Beautiful views from the top. On the way to Percival we got a bit lost and took a turn down to the right rather than up the rocks to the left right after a trail juncture. A group in front of us and a group behind us did the same so looks like it's a common mistake. Percival's views were also lovely. We then went down the caves trail, which was quite steep at first. Clambering through the caves was fun, and had some tight squeezes. There weren't too many mosquitoes, surprisingly. We passed multiple groups along the way; everyone was respectful of social distancing. We also ended up at the Percival parking lot instead of the Morgan parking lot and walked back along the road.

WOW this was so much fun! Definitely go up the ladders and down the other way, but truly a fun hike. The rock scrambles are challenging but not too hard, and the little caves are fun to squeeze through but certainly small. One of my favorite hikes and took us 5 hours with chilling and stops. There is one part like 2 miles in with a false trail. Just be sure you're sticking to the yellow, the real trail is up some rocks! Enjoy!

Trail was super fun! Definitely some scramble parts. The ladder and cave were fun. Trail was well marked, we did end up going off but mainly because we weren’t paying attention to the markers lol

This trail was fun! Brought my dog and we only had to carry her a few times (ladders and caves). My watch came in closer to 5.7 miles than 5.2 but all in all, would do it again!

This is a nice and well-maintained trail. Easy to follow the brand new signs. We did the loop from Mount Percival (Morse trail) to Mount Morgan. We took the cave and climbed the rocks to the summit. We spent a lot of time in that part of the climb as you really have to be careful not to fall. There’s another way to get to the summit without having to go through the cave and climb the rocks. The views at Mount Percival was amazing! Mount Morgan’s summit doesn’t have a view. Go to the lookout and you will get a similar view with Mount Percival. Shaded all the way through the top and back down, just too many mosquitoes. Bring repellent and lots of liquids for this hike.

Did the loop Sat. June 20. Arrived at trailhead 9am, took last parking spot in Rattlesnake lot -Morgan lot was full up. Please folks, remember to snug up in the lots! Tons of wasted space. Nearly everyone on trail was respectful and stayed physically distant. What a beautiful hike! Almost missed the trail sign at the junction of cliffs vs caves coming down from Percival, but figured it out. Bypassed the caves and spent 3 hours on trail total (two not-so-fast ladies-of-a-certain-age), including summit-time. Perfect level of exertion for a 94 degree day!

Really great trail. Not as buggy as others said, but it was also dry this week! The caves were super cool, I wish there were a few more of them! Helped cool us down on this 85° day. When making the trek from Morgan’s summit to Percival’s, WATCH FOR THE YELLOW TRAIL MARKERS. As can be seen from my recording, we went off path on something that looked like a path for sure (right after the junction of the Crawford-Ridgepole Trail & the Mount Morgan Trail). The way we should’ve gone was up through rocks and hard to see the markings for if you weren’t thinking. Went about 15 minutes before realizing something seemed wrong. But this fake path kept going past that. So be careful.

Very nice moderate trail! We arrived at 9am on a Wednesday and there was space left in the lot. When we left at around 2pm there was a similar amount of space left. Very buggy trail. The ladders and caves truly make this trail!! But would not recommend for the faint of heart as the ladders require some scrambling and the cave openings are small and require lots of rock scrambles to get to. The views of Squam Lake are excellent.

We hiked Morgan to Percival Nice easy trail up Morgan, a little buggy until we got almost to the top. Then we hit the ladders!! This trail was super adventurous and I’m so happy we did it! (There is a trail around the ladders for those who don’t want to climb them) There was a nice overlook very near the top, but there were a few groups up there sitting on the ledges so we pressed on to Mt Percival Mt Percival also gave us great views. I was sad to see that the Geological Marker was missing from the top. On the way down we had to crawl through a rocky scramble and caves. I think the position of the caves would be better suited for climbing up than down, either way, they’re really cool!

Great moderate hike. Has some tough spots but definitely manageable. Bugs in the beginning, bring bug spray! Percival is the better view. Morgan ladders aren’t for the faint of heart. Got to the Percival parking lot around 10am. Not a lot of cars at the time. By the time we came down tho, 2pm, it was packed. We did the reverse direction of above percival first and then Morgan. Caves near percival were a lot of fun! You have to take your backpack off for a couple of the squeezes. I’d say it would be manageable for 10+ year olds. Dogs would definitely have a tough time. Atop percival is the better view of the two. We spent a good 30/40 minutes taking pictures, snacking, and enjoying the view there. Then the walk to Morgan is hilly but not steep or a climb. More of a walk. We checked out Morgan summit but didn’t stay long. Small summit area and after seeing percival we didn’t need to stay long. We then started descending and saw the ladders. We did go up and down them just for fun really. They were in stable condition but definitely not the safest placements. It was adventurous. I would suggest staying away if you aren’t confident in your step. Total time for us 2 30yr olds, not in a rush, was 4h30m. Final thoughts: enjoy percival, could skip Morgan but we loved that it was a loop.

Start with Mount Morgan and take the wooden latters upwards which is better than downwards. Some bugs in the forest use anti repellent. Good towards the summit amd the rim trail over to Mount Percival. Downhill from Mount Percival we - 2 male adults - took the cave option: scramble and very tight , probably much better fun for teenagers. Long way downhill and sometimes rocky. Easy and nice loop trail. Park at Mount Percival trail head.

A really great trail with fun ladder and rock scramble. Taking the trail up from Mt Morgan and going down Mt Percival was not great because the trail down Percival is not well marked. We wound up having to go back up to the summit and then down the way we came up on Morgan but would have preferred doing the whole loop! Would still go again.

Arrived at the parking lot around 8am. Only 7 other cars there, so very easy to find a spot to park. When we left around noon, the lot was full with cars parking perpendicular to other cars in the middle of the lot. We did the loop up over Mt. Morgan and over to Mt. Percival. We opted to take the slightly longer route up Mt. Morgan that avoided the caves (you will come to a sign that tells you which way to go). We also took the cliff route descending Mt. Percival instead of the caves (again, a sign tells you which way to go). These two detours to avoid the caves made the route enjoyable - I would say family friendly and dog friendly. No ladders to climb on this route that avoids the caves. Overall, fairly easy to moderate hike with the route we took. Some mud in spots, otherwise a dry trail. Mosquitos were out in force at lower elevations.
