The map shows some unnecessary, though scenic, road walking. To get to the proper trailhead, follow Newmarket Rd over the covered bridge, turn left onto Howe lane after a half mile or so, and park on the left side where the road makes a sudden sharp right turn. Walk up the beautiful old road to the clearing, and look for the trail which continues up the the left through some scrub pine. Don't expect views, but there is an old tower near the peak of chandler mink that used to be visible from downtown Warner, which has since fallen over.

I tried hiking in the snow. The trail was not well marked, but we made it to the top and back with the help of a GPS. It was mostly bushwhacking through the snow.
