Wonderful hike! I would definitely recommend going up via Manning. There are some granite scrambles that would make descending Manning more difficult, especially if wet. The last 1/2 mile before Mowglis gave one great view after the other looking back toward the east and Newfound Lake. We hiked Mt. Moosilauke the next day and felt like this hike was more fun and dramatic with the open granite scrambles. BTW- Mount Moosilauke was still great.

Did this trail in reverse which made it much more difficult but still a great hike! Went up Clark and down Holt. At one point we passed a sign saying that this was the steepest hike in New England. Took 4 guys of different ages around 6 hours to complete.
