Winter summit. Snowshoes are a must after all this snow we received, over 10 feet in some places. The summit was whiteout with strong winds from the south west. Cairns and signs are covered by snow pack. please be observant in alpine, low visibility and hidden cairns can lead to loss of trail. Stayed a crag, gray knob was full.

Deep snow, snow shoes and spikes are a must, stayed at gray knob, arrived at the quay at 9pm with moonlight guiding me, windchill was -15, cold night, used all layers to keep warm. Windchill reached -40 at alpine with 50mph winds. Safe travels.

5th summit, abundant snow cover, slippery slush turning to ice at higher altitude, parts of the trail under 5 feet of snow, the summit had winds reaching 70mph, everything was frozen and covered with rime ice

4th summit, stayed at crag, scattered clouds breaking over the summit with small windows of views, consistent wind

One of my favorite hikes, once you get above the tree line you can see for miles. Beautiful views of Mount Maddison, Jefferson and Washington, and views of mountains further in the distance. I got lucky with a perfect day, nice and sunny with not much wind at all.

Brought a friend for his first summit, this was my 3rd summit of Adams, 60 mph winds at the summit as clouds engulfed us as they swept over the summit

Summited Adams again, awesome view, 80 degrees and clear with a small wind.

Hiked Adams again, it was beautiful outside with no wind at the summit and not a cloud in the sky, 70 degrees all day, but ice was still abundant on all trails, crampons were still needed, awesome hike.

Hiked during February, snow and ice was abundant with parts completely frozen over from streams making the vertical sections slippery, bring adequate crampons. The path was easy at first but quickly becomes vertical for most of the hike until nowell ridge where you reach treeline, then it's a flat trail trough pines to grey knob. The cabin is nice with a wood stove (only for moisture control) and lots of sleeping space on the second floor, the cabin is 15 person max so you can be redirected to crag camp. Reaching summit the wind gusts reached 60mph and visibility was low with rocks covered in ice so footing was hard, I turned back when the storm became more intense.

Lowe's Path to Mount Adams

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

had a nice trip up to summit Jefferson and Adams. parking lot at Lowes store 1$ fee. trail is moderate for about 1.2 the. quickly becomes steep until gray knob. don't let this steepness fool you you will work for it. footing is decent. once at gray knob jct there are a few sections in and out of treeline then it is completely exposed to weather. it is guided by narrow beaten path with numerous rock fields. footing is more rough the closer to thunderstorm jct. from the jct it climbs Adams by rock hopping; cairns are not as obvious in this section compared to Israel ridge cairns. overall nice trip but plan on being out for most the day if you plan in summiting mtns. took me from 1030-8 Jefferson Adams combined.
