Located on the Gale River Road (FR 92) off of Rte. 3 in Twin Mountain. Gale River Road is unplowed in winter.
trail was smooth, with many roots, and generally great,, except for the multiple stream crossings via ice covered rocks.we had to turn back before the steep parts.
ATTN: LOST PHONE!! Found on western side (closer to 93) side of gale river loop road. DM on Insta: Traegertargaryen 12/5/2020 445 start 1345 finish. Gale river loop road is closed that added some miles to each end of the hike. 15.5 total. It began snowing at 7, not much accumulated. Spikes we needed between the hut and the summit. Great hike.
Great hike, no views at the top of Galehead. The veiws are from the hut and are great. Needed microspikes and there was snow at the top.
Galehead to Garfield, nice sunny day, little mud but not bad. Gradual up to Galehead then a little up and down between the two and gradual descent down Garfield. Little longer than we expected but overall great hike and views on top of Garfield
It was rainy and foggy day. Muddy, lots of roots and several areas of water to cross. The first couple of miles are low key as we progressed became more rocky and steeper. Despite all that we had a nice day. There is no view at the summit. We ate lunch on the porch of the hut. We came upon about 30 other hikers during our hike. I'm a slow hiker took me 8 hours .
Little Icey at the top where it would be muddy usually. That’s North Twin with snow.
Relatively easy hike for a 4K. Trail was enjoyable the majority of the way. The Hut has some views and the summit has a very small outlook. Good beginner 4K but not the best views
decent views and great fall foliage, pretty gradual ascent most of the way
Wonderful. River beautiful as well as creeks. First 3 miles gentle then 1.5 to 2 much steeper but never scary. So many rock steps! No view at top but there’s an overlook and nice view from closed hut’s porch.
Very pleasant hike in the woods. The summit was the most underwhelming one yet but I loved the hike itself. Very pleasant for the first few miles then somewhat vertical. Not sure why it says "dogs must be on leash" - this is a great trail for dogs to roam free. No leash restrictions that I saw anywhere.
My favorite trail! A moderate walk through the hardwoods with the Gale River on one side for most of the hike. A nice stop with views of the Twins then a climb on amazing rock steps. Lots of water found by my pup along the way. Finally, a great view from the hut and the outlook near the summit. I’m 69 yo and am resisting hikes with lots of rock hopping. For me, this was very doable with no scary parts.
