Completed 11/22. This trail is closer to 12 miles and not 10.9 (4.6 to the hut, 0.5 to Galehead and 0.8 to South Twin - multiplied by 2 = 11.8). Crampons are highly recommended for trail up/down South Twin. Definitely great 360 degree views from South Twin.

First few miles were flat and fast. Some rock staircases after that up to Galehead Hut. Moderate muddy .5 to Galehead summit. Steep rocky climb from hut to South Twin. Amazing 360 degree views! Slippery descent. Highly recommended. 4:40 moving time, 9+ miles.

This was my first two 4k footers and it was amazing! the views on the way up or down weren't as good as some other first-time 4ks, but from the top of South Twin was phenomenal. some advice for beginners or anyone coming to this trail for the first time: - bring hiking poles; I didn't, and I regretted it - be prepared to cross running water (waterPROOF boots); it POURED the day before and never occurred to me to wear shin-height boots - come early; I came just after sunrise and it was the best way to maximise the day without stress Otherwise, pack for a typical 10-12 mile hike @ 4000+ feet and you're all set. No surprises here and it was a pleasant fall day.

10/1 Great fall day. The first 2 miles was a walk in the woods. The rocks were slick from yesterday’s rain and the fallen leaves. The view from the Galehead hut is great. Took over 2 hrs to summit Galehead, and about an hour for South Twin alone.

6/27/20: This was a tough but awesome hike! We started up Gale River Trail, passed the hut and went up S Twin, over to N. Twin, and then hit Galehead on the way back down. Highly recommend this route as to space out the super steep mile climb on the south side of S Twin! It ended up being just under 15 miles which we did in around 8 hours, including a few breaks. The 360 views are fantastic on top of S Twin and along the ridge to N Twin, and definitely don’t miss the outlook halfway up Galehead! While the 1000ft elevation gain mile up S Peak was quite the challenge, the rest of the hike is relatively mild to balance it out.

HikingGreat!

Very nice trail. You have to drive up the dirt road, then take a right where is says 92, then park on the left. Trail was mostly dry. Bugs weren't bad - didn't need my net. I started at 11:00. Only made it up to about 3500ft and my legs said enough (saving them for tomorrow). Very nice river; easy to cross.

Amazing trail with gradual ascent... until it isn’t. Galehead hut offers great views, as did the outlook on Galehead. Hike to South Twin is grueling, only matched by the descent. If you have the time, the hop to North Twin is well worth it. Amazing vista near the summit.

Great trail. Gradual incline. Until south twin, stair case of death but the view is worth everything!

Moderate trail to hut, but trail to Galehead and S. Twin steep with very narrow monorail, still stable with avoidable postholes. Micros a must at the higher elevation. Daily changing conditions this time of year!
