Great trail but steep for an 85 degree day. Drive up private road till you reach parking at trailhead. Map on app doesn’t show this clearly. Tons of ripe raspberries out along the road, unlimited supply!

Hiked June 26, 2020. EXTREMELY buggy. Bring lots of bug spray and prepare to be miserable for 40ish minutes. The mosquitos were out of control. Saw 3 bear (momma and 2 cubs) on dirt road leading to trailhead. Took around 40 minutes to get to the top. Great views of lake and surrounding mountains. Highly recommended if you don’t have a lot of time to get out and hike.

Loved this hike and the view is gorgeous...you can see both Squam and Winnipesaukee. However, I would not say this is a moderate hike. It is rocky and quite steep in places. If you do not feel up to the actual climb there is a really nice picnic spot at the trailhead with a view of squam lake.

Went on 3/8 —snow was just melting, so there is a little mud on the trail! Cross over several streams on the way up. The road for parking was shut down for snow—so it added another .9 mile walk in. Gradual climb. Great moderate hike—fantastic views!

Old Highway / Thompson Rd not plowed in winter apparently. Hiked to Ledges with spectacular views for New Years Day. Last 1/3 mile to ledges very steep. Decided to forego summit as 12” new snow was slower/harder going than planned.

Nice view at the viewpoint just short of the top. There is a parking area at the trail head. The trail doesn’t start at the main road like the map shows.

This was a good, challenging hike. That being said, if you’re going in the summer, bring TONS of bug spray. The mosquitos are no joke. Literal swarms. Also the trail is not well maintained at all, so poles are definitely recommended as there are leaves everywhere and since it’s so steep it makes for a really bad combination. While getting to the top was a bit of a nuisance with these things, the view was absolutely incredible and well worth it.

Nothing too memorable about this trail. It is steep (good exercise), but hikers of most skill level will be able to complete, given enough time.

This hike is pretty steep and I would say it's harder than all the other "moderate" hikes I've done from AllTrails. When we hiked this yesterday there were many fallen trees and it seemed like the path hadn't been maintained in a while. If it weren't for the markings we wouldn't have known where the path was at all in a few places.

Great hike. Broke trail after the last Nor'easter. Winds were strong for the first half then got above them. Easy breeze and temps in the 20s. Broke a snowshoe binding on the last steep stretch before the top. Super view over Squam. Came back down bare-booted in knee deep snow. would do it again in a heartbeat! Just with solid shoes!!

I'm sorry to see the last review before mine was 1 star. I found this brief out-and-back hike to be just wonderful. Original plan was to summit Doublehead and then trek across to Percival, but it was gusty and snow-sleeting so we only did the out and back. Trail is well marked and woods are beautiful. A couple somewhat steepish spots, but no scrambling. Would be a GREAT beginner hike. It took us 3 hours in wet, leaf-covered conditions with fresh 1/2 inch of snow.

Lovely views of all of Squam Lake. You can hike from the bottom (as shown on this map), or drive up a gravel road for .9 miles and hike from the base of the Doublehead Trail only.
