Crotched Mountain from Mountain Road is a 2.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Bennington, New Hampshire that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
First time up this trail was after a 6 month hiking hiatus so the turnaround was at a trail intersection approximately 1 mile into the hike, however, this was a very good moderate hike. The first quarter mile starts off light and transitions to a moderate hike for another 3 quarters of mile. Trail is still well traversed and marked with blue paint with orange circulars. This is not a very wide or heavily trafficked trail as there are no specific parking locations. Off a dirt road, the base of the trail has a small semi-flat area large enough for 3 vehicles.
The hike was on a narrow, lightly marked, trail and included a steady incline to the top through the woods. From the top I was able to see Mt Monadnock and even the white capped top of Mt. Washington was visible in the distance through the trees! The high peak and elevation marker is located next to a cell phone tower which was a bummer.
this Trail is often hard to follow but at least the trail markers which are orange discs are very prevalent even though the trail itself is not super heavily used.
