The hike walks mostly through wooded paths with limited views. The end of the trail is very challenging. People who are afraid of heights, may want to avoid.

Well marked, challenging trail that is not too crowded. Very steep scrambling section near the end that could be treacherous in wet conditions or for nervous/inexperienced climbers. Most of trail is enclosed (including summit) but there are several fantastic outlooks.

Really fun trail, great summit views, and not many people compared to comparable trails elsewhere in the Whites. Really underrated hike.

Whiteface is much less popular than some of the other mountains around here, so you won't see a ton of people along the way, nor even at the summit. The trail is woodsy and very rocky—hard to walk at times due to all the rocks along the way. Once the trail starts opening up you have to walk straight up a rock to keep going. I can't imagine any dogs would be able to do it. The summit is a little anticlimactic but offers nice views to the south; on the way up there are also great views of the mountains to the east.

Very steep for the last 1/3 of the hike but fantastic viewpoints as you get close to the summit. Since you have to start at the Ferncroft Rd parking lot it ends up being closer to 7.5 miles out and back. I'm a fairly athletic person but not a serious hiker and it took me almost exactly 4 hours. Definitely recommend it if you have done some harder hikes before but would not recommend if you are new to hiking.
