Check White Mountain National Forest road status for Hurricane Mountain Road, online or by phone. One of the most popular short hikes in the White Mountains, this relatively easy hike is blazed in red and offers excellent views of the White Mountains and the Presidential Range. This Preserve is managed by The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire. It is an excellent place for walking, hunting, and observing wildlife. Camping, fires or wheeled vehicles are not permitted on the preserve, and all dogs must be on a leash.

Lovely short hike! Trail was a bit muddy and rocks were icy in some spots near the top. Otherwise, beautiful view at the summit.

Nice and easy hike only at some parts a bit rocky. It just takes you 30-40 minutes to the top. The way to the top is in the forest, nothing spectacular, but the view on top is nice.

Beautiful trail all the way up. Was a little muddy in some spots but nothing to worry about. You could see the snow on top of mount Washington which was beautiful as well. 10/10 recommend.

Wonderful hike. Took my Seven month old and almost 4-year-old and they both did great. They loved it. Great views. Definitely family friendly. Looking forward to going again next year.

Great experience. New road up to the trail head was nice. The trail ha s a few roots but opens up to rocks that are like stairs at the top. Very beautiful views of Mnt Washington valley. Lucked out with a perfect day and foliage as far as I could see.

Hiked today with my dog on leash. Foliage absolutely beautiful. Took the side trail over to cranmore too. Definitely need proper footwear. Encountered some tourists who did not seem prepared. Lots of roots and the summit is rough with lots of rocks. Stunning views!! Great hike but not a leisurely walk. People need to be prepared.

Easy trial with a slight pitch at the end for a little challenge. We hiked in a cloud but still beautiful in the foliage.

This is a great hike for people who want a great view for short hike. I would rate this on the moderately easy side. It does get a little steep towards the end and some light scrambling. Views were fantastic and so much of it to take in. Perfect for families or people short on time. Definitely do the loop, saw so many people going back the same way they came and they miss a nice loop hike. Also take the time to explore the top. It took my 13 yr old daughter and I, 2 hours round trip including a lunch break. Happy Hiking!

Great hike for the family. My husband carried our 2 year old on his back and it was just challenging enough for our 9 and 7 year old for it to still be enjoyable. Great views at the top.

Great easy-to-follow trail. Fairly easy with exception of rock ledge at end. Would not recommend on a rainy day. Still not very hard. There is also alternate route that is easier at the end 0.5 mile instead of 0.3. I recommend just doing the loop. If you go to east side of black cap there’s great views of Maine. Made it to the top much quicker than expected so hiked back down partway and jumped on cranmore trail which was a great addition. Minimal bugs in September. Great views. Great cell service. Good hike to do if solo. Popular trail, I passed several groups of people. Top of black cap, down and up to Cranmore and back out approximately 6 miles.

Loved this trail! Beautiful view at the top and very mild climb - only gets slightly steeper at the top. It was perfect when I went, but I imagine the rocks get slippery when wet. So, careful if it's just rained. My favorite hike so far!

Great trail, very wet! Recent rain makes the rocks dangerous when heading closer to the peak so be careful. Awesome views though!
