Nice elevation, easy trail to follow. The trailhead isn't marked and parking is a short distance walk on the road. Beautiful views on the way up.
Perfect Winter hike. Poles were great for stability. Definitely bring multiple layers—my son and I had 4 layers on top in addition to good pants and boots. I had boot gaiters, but they weren’t necessary.
FYI don’t follow the Google Maps directions, it takes you to a road pulloff with a wash that looks like a trail, and is a bit rough up to the main trail. The main trail is in good condition, and the few views of the surrounding mountains are beautiful. The trail is not very well marked at junctions though.
This is a pretty nice trail. You can start by parking in the parking lot and walking up the road a bit where the trailhead starts on the right hand side going up the hill a bit past a metal gate. From there you can take either side if the loop till you get to the fork. The left fork is a really beautiful hike with a well defined path that just keeps going. I think I got to about 8,400 feet before I turned around but the trail kept going. Note that the left fork starts where you have to climb over a fallen tree stump. The right fork takes you past 2 mines that are blocked by gates. Both forks had trickles of water running middle of September. Then on the way back take the other side of the loop you didn’t take so you get the whole trail experience. I would rate this hike as moderate. I think I climbed around 1,100 feet in elevation deviating from the all trails map for the left fork since I just wanted to keep going. Well worth it it’s absolutely beautiful forest scenery.
The trailhead is up the road from the parking lot. However, there is a way in from the parking lot itself. It’s a bit rockier though. The hike had a slight incline at some parts. We explored the left and right side of the fork. The left had a cave and spring. The right had the abandoned mine. You can’t go much further though since both sides lead to a very overgrown area and some of the plants had thorns on them! Overall it is a decent hike and a good one for beginners. we went at 2 PM last week and there was plenty of shade in most areas.
The start of the trail is a half a mile up the road or you can go through the trail available at the parking lot. There are a lot of rocks to go over. The cave and mine at the end was cool to see. But you can’t go down very far after the fork. Right and left sides are pretty over grown and there are plants with spikes. Definitely more moderate if you’re out of shape. There were some incline parts. Plenty of shade for us when we went at 4 PM yesterday. I would do it again!
Loved it! At the top the creek was flowing. Definitely will do again.
Hike was really nice! It’s easy until the fork, but on the two sides it was a lot tougher and required climbing. I couldn’t imagine dogs and children going past the the area before it goes into the Y. We enjoyed it, wished there was a better view and trails were overgrown so we got lost a few times during the Y sections. I highly recommend hiking boots for this. And would rate it moderate for the complete trail. But enjoyable none the less! :)
