With this route, you'll spend more time exposed on the lower slopes; which means it'll be hot in the summer daytime. This route is also used by wranglers giving horseback rides from Spring Mountain State Park and Bonnie Springs, so you'll have plenty of company on this trail. Once you walk up the rich red soil and drop down behind the hill, you'll be in the area called the "haunted canyon". This is a wonderful spot, full of beauty and solitude (except on weekends), and the best part is you still have the creek ahead of you. There are many shady trees and great boulders for picnic spots, just be sure to haul your trash out with you.

Easy trail. Not much in elevation and more like a walk. This trail leads you around a hill following the creek. Today, the creek had water and the weather was beautiful. Not much wildlife even though we started around 5:30am. If you go early the sun won’t be directly above you because there is no shade for 3/4 of the hike. The trail veers off to many little paths that lead you back to the original trail. You can make it a bit longer if you want, even shorter.

Started the hike late in the afternoon. No shade or view at the start, but gets much better the closer you get to the mountains. Here is my video of the hike: https://youtu.be/_WTBQnjvTrU

This was one of our favorite trails to hike! We went a little off course so we didn't have to backtrack. The way we went took off some miles, but we still hiked over 6 miles (which is more than what the app says). This trail has so many different types of landscape. We hiked through very rocky areas, brush, wide and narrow trails, sand, walked across strong stones across the creek. We found a perfect spot to hang out hammocks. There were so many spots to stop and have lunch. The views of the Red Rock mountains are so amazing! Pictures don't capture the majestic sights you see in person. We will definitely be back!

Nice hike, very big rocks/rocky for most of the trail, after a while ended up on flat ground that leads to beautiful trees and view.

Great trail, pretty easy hike but no shade so it’s best to go early in the morning especially in the summer.

very minimal shade at the beginning of the trail. Once you start pass a big boulder on your right side it begins to get more green and you’ll find the creek if you head downward on the marked trail. Once at the small creek you can follow that up (no real path down there) and scramble through the rocks to get a nice little body of water. So relaxing and feels like you aren’t in a desert anymore.

Easy hike. Not bad during this massive closure.

Very rocky pathway until you get to the foot of the mountains. Then you go slightly upwards on a sand path that turns foresty in between the mountains into a different valley. There is a stream in the middle of the valley with small 2’ waterfalls.

Very exposed to the sun almost the entire time. Try to go early morning to avoid crowds. Parts of the trail are hard to pick up but there’s so many pieces it’s easily findable again.
