A demanding backcounty extension off the popular Calico Tanks trail to the summit of Redcap Peak. Aka: Turtlehead Jr. Calico Hills is a grouping of colorful sandstone formations north of the entrance to the Scenic Loop Road. Popular with hikers, scramblers, and climbers this beautiful area offers almost unlimited routes for all skill levels. Of all the twisting canyons and rounded peaks waiting to be explored, only Redcap is considered a ranked peak (Rise of +360'). Short and to the point type of hike. It was fun deciding which crack and seam to scramble at the top half.

Great hike. There is a book to sign at the top of the summit.

To short! The twists, turns, views and route finding nature of this scramble left me wishing for another 2,000 vertical feet!
