I love the ease of a boardwalk hike, so for a relaxing walk this is always a good choice! However I don't believe the scenery is as inspiring as many of the other walks in the park. Well maintained and informational boards are a plus. Follow my instagram for more adventures @julie_journeys

Hiking

Perfect hike for the little ones since it is on a boardwalk. Trail provides some history and geaographical descriptions of the landscape and boulders. View is magnificent. The trail has been under construction for many months but a quick hike on the the right side of the area is pretty satisfactory.

Easy trail with very good views of the calico mountains, a spring and desert plants. The interpretive signs are great in explaining the ecology of the area.

This has a pretty view of the red stone but it’s in a little valley so you’re missing the main view. Great if you want a really easy and small loop. The boardwalk is very well kept. It’s just not too exciting.

Boardwalk still closed. But at the same parking lot there is the Red Creek trailhead. Desert still in bloom. Requires some scrambling in parts but overall a scenic and moderate hike.

HikingClosedMuddySnow

The boardwalk trail is closed. you can walk on horse trails and trails the climbers use instead but they aren't well marked and a bit hard to follow in the current snow/mud conditions. still beautiful day and hike. I didnt do the scrambling higher up in the canyon because I wasn't prepared for slipping on ice/snow in the shade.

Bird Watching

The intuitive thing to do when you arrive here is to walk around the boardwalk, indicated in red on the map, which takes just a few minutes unless you want to stop and read all the signs. However I also saw some people take off in different directions (none of which are indicated on your map). I did not find any signs with info on what there is outside of the boardwalk. Having said that, it was a really nice place, it is elevated (probably so you can see birds in trees and whatnot) but I had hoped for more of a hike.

This trail is actually called the Red Spring Boardwalk. It's very popular for weddings and Photography shoots ( both require BLM permits).
