The bulk of this hike is on a 4 x 4 road. The last mile and a quarter is a very nice trail to the top.

Although rated as Moderate on All Trails, the BLM map you get at Red Rocks rates this hike as Strenuous. I would rate it as strenuous due to the length, elevation change and technical challenges. This trail starts off at the Willow Spring Picnic Area (the same area you start off at to get to La Madre Springs), then follows Rocky Gap Road to its summit, then follows Bridge Mountain Trail then forks off to the North Peak Trail. Some reviews have lowered their star ratings due to most of the hike being on the Rocky Gap Road where it can get boring to people who don’t appreciate the long stretch of “road”. I might agree with that but there are some points of interest along the way: a huge pine tree with a concrete park bench and table with a small running stream, for example. Along Rocky Gap Road, there are scenic turn outs, parking areas and numerous trail heads along the way; Rocky gap Summit is one of those parking areas and marks the Bridge Mountain/North Peak trailhead. Sweeping vistas, gnarled pine and juniper trees along with wildlife makes this trail fun with plenty of photo ops. Once you get towards the peak, the trail gets lest distinct and there will be some scrambling to get to the top. Once at the top, you can spot Las Vegas. Towards the east, you can see Ice Box Canyon; to the left of that is Fern Valley (the valley beyond Pine Creek Trail: you might be able to see Dark Shadows and the top of Mescalito Peak).

The first 5 miles is basically on a 4WD road. But once you get or the “trail” portion it’s probably one of the best in Red Rock. Didn’t have time to do the additional 1.2 miles (2.4 round trip) to Bridge Mountain. I plan to return to finish the latter.

I loved this hike and would recommend. Only reason I did not give it a 4 or 5 stars because most of the hike is on 4wd trailhead before going on single track to the top. I even enjoyed the 4wd drive road, just hard for me to say this is a 5 star trail when 10 of the 12 miles is on road. After doing North Peak I also followers the trail to Bridge Mountain, but did not do the rock scramble to summit.

Definitely a winner! A beautiful, isolated peak with a slickrock base that is very fun to explore. You'll probably share this hike with very few people, if you see anyone at all. I hiked from Willow Springs which made it a longer hike, but don't let that deter you; Rocky Gap Road is pretty easy (if a bit boring) to walk and the time goes by quickly. I did this hike earlier in the year; I would not recommend attempting this hike during the hotter months.

great hike, not a fan of walking up rocky gap road. Once I reached the actual trail head it was a beautiful 2+ mile hike to the summit. Afterwords took a detour towards Bridge mountain but did not complete. Got to hidden forest.

Parking at Willow Springs and walking up the gravel track takes about four hours if you have lunch at the top. There is a boulder about 100m from the end of the trail that provides a great photo opportunity, if you have a head for heights.

Awesome hike. Wont take long at all if you take a 4x4 high clearance vehicle to the trail head. But if you park at the bottom on the scenic drive and hike up Rocky Gap Road like I did, that part alone takes 90-120 minutes one way. It's worth it. The view is 10/10, and the terrain is pretty gradual with almost 0 scrambling. Trail is easy to find/follow.

I started at the base of Willow Springs Picnic area which added about 6 miles to the 2.6 mile hike. The initial ascent is on a 4x4 road until you get to the trailhead. Beautiful hike with breathtaking view from the summit.
