This easy trail can be walked, jogged, or biked. Remnants of the Hoover Dam's construction can be seen throughout the entirety of this route. There are five tunnels in all, each 25 feet in diameter. Visitors will have panoramic views of Lake Mead and the Boulder Basin region along their journey. Please be aware that this area gets extremely hot in the afternoon. We recommend you start your hike as early as possible to avoid the heat.

Beautiful views of the lake all along the trail. Cool history and plenty of shade in the tunnels. Flat, easy walking, even for little ones. Wide paths, so it doesn't feel crowded. We'll be back for sure when it fully reopens to the dam.

The last 1.5 miles of this trail is currently closed because Hoover Dam is closed due to the virus. It is flat and easy, and has lots of views of Lake Mead. There were a ton of people on the trail, but it’s plenty wide. 5/23/20

My family and I enjoyed this trail. We went at sunset and it was beautiful. I recommend taking a headlamp or any flashlight because they’re are no lights out there. The view of the lake is stunning. If you scare easily with bats I do not recommend you going at night as the bats come out of the tunnels once the sun sets.

Amazing views and beautiful history! This is a great beginner trail with some small side trails to make things a bit more intense if you wanted. There was a lot of wild life including bats in the first two tunnels! It’s best to go in the evening to watch the sun set on the wall back.

Arrived at 730AM on a Saturday, trailhead lot was full but visitor center had plenty of spots (bathrooms are open). Going out, trail was lightly trafficked with couples/small families. Coming back, large social groups were walking the width of the trail (because there isn’t a highly contagious pandemic going on or anything???). Would not recommend this trail if you can’t finish by 8AM right now. Otherwise trail is great!

Stephanie, it is open, and goes through all five tunnels, but you cannot reach the Hoover Dam parking lot anymore. There is a fence just after tunnel five. The trail is crowded so you might have to park at the visitor center, which is closed, as are the bathrooms. Still it is a nice and very safe hike.

Is the tunnel trail open right now during Covit19?

The featured map for this hike is very incorrect. First, the elevation chart is crazy wrong. there are no ups and downs as depicted. its a very easy slightly noticeable uphill hike. Second, from the parking lot past the last tunnel and back is 4.6 mi. This is an excellent trail for a sunset hike. Bring a headlamp for the walk back. This is also a great place for a bike ride and is stroller friendly. There's no shade, so it is brutal when is hot and sunny out. Awesome lake views!

Flat walk

Favorite easy walk - great one to run or jog on. Beautiful views of lake mead marina and fun historic tunnels. Can be heavily trafficked (crowded!) on weekends. Out and back it’s about 4 miles.
