Getting There

This is a nice little stop along the scenic route, one of the sites at the Valley of Fire to a well preserved petrified tree. Not much of a hike but still fun for kids. You get a great view of some mountains. This is the next site after The Cabins on the east side next to the Hwy.

There's a turn out is provided on the north side of the road.

From The Cabins return to Valley of Fire Hwy and head east for approximately half a mile. It will be on the left side of the road.

Easy hike up stairs cut into the hillside to a fenced-in but very well preserved petrified tree. Nice little stop along the scenic route.

If you've never seen a petrified log this is a quicky to run up and see. Kids were over the heat so Hubby and I took turns running up and back the trail. If you have seen a petrified log, probably worth skipping.

More like a stop on the side of the road. If you go up to the top and look around its got a decent view.

Short steep walk to a fenced in petrified log. Not really too amazing.

Not really what you would call a hike. If you have never seen a petrified log before take it. If you have, save your energy for a little better trail and sights.

But if you go BEYOND the trail and down into the river valley... it’s amazing! We walked for 7km, played on the sand, and found some really cool rocks.

Skip it. I'm a rock nerd, and this was just boring. There was no visible agatization/shininess. The cross section looked woody, but the rest might as well have been a piece of sandstone. There is tons of cool stuff to do in this park - don't disappoint yourself by wasting even a little of your time on this worthless stop.

Was disappointed in this after visiting Petrified Forest. There are better hikes in this park.
