Absolute butt kicker! We started at Davis Creek Park and went to Price lake, then we continued on to Tahoe Meadows. it was a very serious day, I wouldn’t suggest it unless you’re really really really really looking to do some suffering . The snow was deep and had an icy cap on top of it, Snow shoes worked great and I spikes but it was very slow going

Long uphill climbs with no switch backs makes it hard on the knees coming down. The water level is low to non-existent in the streams. Hopefully we’ll get a few storms soon.

HikingGreat!Off trail

There’s tons of different trails in this area to explore, but it’s easy to get lost. I’ve never hiked to the lake, but this is definitely a fun place to hike.

Backpacking

We backpacked to Upper Price and camped near the stream. It is a tough trail; continuous uphill with some very steep and rocky sections. The end was a nice place to stop and set up camp.

Whew! This is a toughie. It feels never ending, honestly but the views (especially at this time of year) are worth it! I honestly don’t know why the trail to Tahoe Meadows is listed as 7.5 miles. Granted. I diverged from the path a few times for photos, which added some extra mileage. And when I got to the fork to go to Rock Lake or Price Lake, I did take a slight detour to get pics of that. My detours probably added about 1.7-2 extra miles. I think if you just stayed directly on the path from Davis Creek to the Tahoe Meadows trailhead- it would be closer to 10 miles. Also don’t underestimate how much longer a total uphill climb will take. I figured I’d be done in 5 hours, but it took me over 7.

It's actually 9.6 based on the sign. No lake at the top, more of a river that you can Wade in

Was a great hike, quite the work out for sure! Nice and shady most of the time. Price lake was more like a pond, but was relaxing watching the fish jump for their food.

HikingGreat!

This is a good trail, especially if you’re looking for a workout and going uphill. We didn’t go to the top where the meadows at Mt. Rose are, but we went up to upper price lake. The lake is neat little spot. Just a small one with a small area to rest, some have camped there. This trail is never crowded I think due to the steepness of it, as I said it’s a workout, but me and the wife like to take lots of breaks and take it all in. Plenty of views and neat checkpoints along the way. The trail only has one part that seems to get a little worse each year from washout. After the granite rocks and creek, you’ll get to a wider dirt road/trail, it will go up and back down with a curve and you’ll come to an area where a stream is or was (depending on the time of year). It seems like it dead ends there but continue to just walk up hill and you can’t miss where the trail pick right back up. It will be on the right side of the stream. The chutes are the hardest, very steep rocky walking path, and I usually break once or twice in the middle. Push through it and you’ll be rewarded with an opening in the forest at the top a nice stump to sit on and listen to the birds and trees.

I’m giving this a 5, not because it was the most exciting of trails, but because Price lake was so quiet and peaceful. There was no one on the trail on a Tuesday. I sat at the lake for an hour watching fish, listening to birds. It was great. Not swimmable, which I was sad about, but still peaceful. I took a detour to Rock lake on the way down. Totally worth it. Very interesting. You might want water shoes for a small portion to price lake, which I was glad I had. Took me 5 hour total with the 45 minute stop at the lake. Pretty steep in some areas. Would recommend poles, especially for coming back down. I had 2 liters of water and wished I had brought more. Lots of shade for most of the trail.

This was such a beautiful trail! Good amount of coverage which was welcome for a hot day. We went further than the recommended route and had lunch at a price leak which we had all to ourselves.

Great hike if you want to be out in the woods. It Is covered by trees pretty much the whole way, so not too much sun. However, if you are expecting to get to the top and see an amazing view, this is not the trail. There is no view from the top, and if you make it all the way to the pond at the end, it is over grown and you can't really even see it. also, you only see the creek once when you cross over it. you don't follow the creek for very long. Great hike to get out in nature though.

Great hike/trail run. 4 stars because the trail was overgrown at Price lake and a disappointment. Spent 15 minutes bushwhacking hopelessly. The trail itself was great for trail running even with the steep sections. Zero snow.

The hike is amazing, with great views and challenging terrain (Steep in sections). At Price lake the trail is washed out and there is about 40 yards of shin deep cold water to wade through. A stop at rock lake is a must.

Awesome trail lots of up hill my calves were on fire . The trail is very nice once you get close to the lake the trail looks like you have to go through the river. If you break off to the left there is a trail that leads to the lake hard to find it though.

Awesome trail! I would recommend it if you want a challenge. Majority of going to the lake is up hill. Definitely need hiking boots as well! There is a point that you may get lost because we sure did and even crossed a wide river with ice cold water to get to the lake. Luckily we found other people who were as lost as we were and made new friends after that adventure but there is another way around guys, you don’t have to do what we did and cross an ice cold river! Also this trail is longer than it indicates we finished with 11 miles

I hike quite a bit, but this hike kicked my butt. Didn’t anticipate the difficulty as I do the lower half of this trail several times a week. Hard is accurate. Super steep for long treks and parts are not very shaded. Lake was difficult to find but was pretty once we made it. Didn’t run into any snow on the trail, most of its melted off. Good workout, bring plenty of water and plan for the difficulty. This is not a hike to start on a whim in the afternoon. It says 4.5 miles but my watch said it was closer to 6.

This hike was tough. The waist deep snow .5 miles from the lake made it almost impossible without snow shoes. Its steep in parts and my legs were a little like jello when done. I cleaned up some low lifes trash wrapper as well.

It definitely took every bit of energy out of me! I love hiking and being challenged, this trail definitely challenged me. What I got to see was beautiful but had to turn back about a mile from the lake because the snow was too deep & we didn’t prepare for that.

Awesome trail with lots of shade in the morning. There are some seemingly endless, steep sections that pushed my dad bod to its limits. The creek is running high and is flowing over the final piece of the trail to Price lake, but it's slow moving and easy to navigate through. The hard difficulty rating is accurate.

It is a hard one. very steep, and some parts rocky. For reaching the lake, you have to pass a river which does not have a bridge or rock.
