Great hike, close to Reno. Can get lots of elevation if heading up the mountain on the trail or take the short loop.

Nice scenery and some good views. Lots of uphill initially. Too crowded for my tastes on a holiday. Parking lot gates closing at 5:00 adds unnecessary pressure. The parking is a bit chaotic, making finding the actual trailhead challenging. No signs or tree blazes, so would be difficult to follow after new snow. It is worth continuing beyond the “end “ of the indicated trail to the rock jumble and creek.

This was a great hike the requires some physical exercion. Traction is a necessity if taking the northern loop and continuing the trail beyond the loop. I got three miles in before I had to turn around because I was post-holing in the snow.

Great incline hike up and nice little trail run back down! Went during the week in the morning and only saw one other hiker and dog on the trail

Absolutely loved this hike!! we went kind of late & were not able to make it all the way to the end - the gate where we parked our car said they close it at 9pm. This is definitely one of the least populated hikes I’ve been on around Reno area, probably because it is uphill almost the entire way - although we did see mountain bikers on the way, so that can be done there - but totally worth it! At one point we hiked on river rocks, so I would recommend bringing appropriate hiking shoes. Overall, beautiful scenery, peaceful, and definitely a harder hike ... highly recommend for hiking enthusiasts.

very steep and lots and lots of cross trails. seems like most meet back up sooner or later, but it just very very confusing. definitely keep a map or gps and lots and lots of water. also, the lake is almost completely dried up, not good for swimming August 4th 2020

I don't know why people are having trouble following this trail. I would suggest taking the left option at .3 if you want an easier assent. The shorter route to the right is steep but a great workout. When you get to the final split take a left through the rocks and have lunch at the creek. Nice views of Slide Mt.

Quite a few people with dogs off leash so be forewarned if you have a less socialized dog. Overall a medium level hike.

THIS IS NOT A TRAIL!!! This was by far the worst "trail" I have ever been on. We had to pretty much stare at our GPS the whole time to know if we were going the right direction. We stayed on the red line of the supposed trail. The "trail" was either completely covered in very slippery pine needles or very loose DG gravle on the side of a very steep mountain. I was actually quite scared of slipping down the hill. This "trail" needs to be removed from the options as a traversable trail. We went down via county road and it was great.

The part of the trial labeled as BP is not a trail. We bushwhacked and scrabble up slippery pine needles and then sand and loose rocks. Still shorter in miles than the other way but much tougher.

Long beautiful trail. Rugged at times. Detoured at signs towards Rock Lake because it was getting late and the app map made it appear that there was another trail that loops back in that direction. There is not. It dead ends at Rock lake. Rock lake does not appear on the app map but I am glad we saw it. It is very unique! We scaled the huge boulders to get across, then found our way to the creek and followed it back down to the crossing. That was very difficult! The detour was our bad, not necessarily the apps. Ophir Creak trail is awesome! Next year we will leave a little earlier and follow the suggested route.
