Conquer the summit of Mt Rose and enjoy the waterfalls, alpine lakes and great Lake Tahoe views. Mt. Rose may be the second tallest peak in Tahoe basin and prominent feature of the northern Lake Tahoe skyline, but despite its 2,300ft elevation gain the journey to the peak is best described as pleasant rather than challenging.

Lovely summit hike! 'Pleasant rather than challenging' is the perfect description of getting to this summit. By the time you start to get really tired, you're already at the top! We had a lovely day of hiking. It was perfectly sunny and the temps were in the 50s/60s.

As always I recommend starting early to avoid trail traffic, I would recommend using the path this app has for the way down both ways, much better views.

It’s tough. It’s absolutely beautiful and worth the time! Typical time is 5 hours for the loop. We made it in 4.5 and stopped for lunch on top. Take lots of photos, wear layers it’s cold up top! Enjoy

Well marked and easy to follow. Like the other reviews say, most of the climbing is in the last mile or so. Wind was mild when I got up there, and still no snow!

Got to the trailhead at 8:30am. (11/3/19). Already 50 degrees! Beautiful hike and hardly any wind at the summit.

Be prepared for a lot of wind for the last half-mile or so to the peak.

It wasn’t difficult and didn’t feel long. Wouldn’t recommend the fire road back over the actual trail

The last mile to the top is pretty steep. I was there today (oct 19th) and it was insanely windy. At the top, it was a steady 40-50mph with gusts in the 60-65mph range. Took me right around 6hrs with lots of breaks.

Great fall hike! We were out and back in about 4.5 hours. The last .5mi at the top was incredibly windy and cold. Proceed with extreme caution and I suggest turning around at the end of the tree line.

The hike is definitely not for the faint hearted if you haven't acclimatised to the altitude. The hike from the car park to the waterfall is an easy gradient. From the waterfall to the saddle is a bit of a blower and you will be glad of a short rest to drink water and have an energy snack. The last mile to the summit is a slog especially if you are not used to the altitude. Just pace yourself and you will get there. On the return journey its g of to make use of walking poles as the scree can be quite hazardous. I slipped three times going down from the summit to the waterfall. So be careful. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies, clear air and a pleasant breeze, although I did wear gloves for the first mile of the descent as the breeze coming up the valley was chilled. Not bad for a 65year old who only started high hill hiking a couple of years ago.

Excellent trail, well maintained. Not to crowded on a Tuesday in October. Very windy for the last .5 mile. Bring a jacket.

Great for trail runners especially the 1st 5k (to the fall). The fall and waterloo next to the fall are beautiful from May to Aug.
