Conquer the summit of Mt Rose and enjoy the waterfalls, alpine lakes and great Lake Tahoe views. Mt. Rose may be the second tallest peak in Tahoe basin and prominent feature of the northern Lake Tahoe skyline, but despite its 2,300ft elevation gain the journey to the peak is best described as pleasant rather than challenging.

Hiked this last Thursday 5/21. Plenty of snow still on trail, I needed poles for stability but not snowshoes. I only did the first part of the hike because of the extra energy used to get through the snow. Well worth the effort. Only a 5 mile round trip to the waterfall.

Turned back after 2 miles. Icy and slushy conditions with slip hazards. Didn’t come prepared with micro spikes but will try again in late June once trails are clear of snow. Great views of Lake Tahoe!

Very pretty but we could not make it all the way. Very very deep snow and very steep

I will come back later in the year, around June. I was about 3/4 mile into the trail and it then completely disappeared from snow pack. Being a 1st timer here was reluctant to bush whack. Gonna go to a lower elevation trail and see if I can get to less snow covered area. Newbie mistakes. Oh well.

Great trail- it was challenging of course but it is very dog friendly, bike friendly, and family friendly. There is a halfway mark where you get to see a waterfall but if you keep going past that, which gets very difficult because of how steep it is, the view is absolutely incredible from the top! Highly recommend doing the full hike at least once!

Very hard hike! I went up without spikes and I actually did pretty well but I don’t recommend it. Lots of snow at the top! Keep in mind there are lots of other tracks in the snow so keep and eye out for the ribbons in the trees. Almost got lost! And the scramble at the top is very real. But wow the view was so worth it.

Still more than enough snow on the north faces to get some good runs in

Started at 5am with the hopes to summit early, but it was too hard to keep the trail in the dark. Since there isn’t much snow, everyone has made their own trails all over the place, making route finding difficult. We had crampons on, the snow is too frozen for snowshoes or micro spikes. Hopefully we get fresh snow soon!

One of my favorite hikes. What a great trail and day...that night it snowed...

Hiked this trail on 2/1/20. Trail covered in snow and I was without snowshoes. Was able to follow snowshoe tracks for 3 miles until they ended. I had trekking poles and microspikes to help with stability and traction. Was sunny and saw beautiful views from every direction. Will definitely hike this trail again, hopefully again with snow and snowshoes. Highly recommended trail.

I hiked it today and got off trail which was fine it was still a beautiful hike no need for snow shoes although they would be nice. Poles are probably necessary very windy and cold at the top. Easy to Uber from Reno

Lovely summit hike! 'Pleasant rather than challenging' is the perfect description of getting to this summit. By the time you start to get really tired, you're already at the top! We had a lovely day of hiking. It was perfectly sunny and the temps were in the 50s/60s.

As always I recommend starting early to avoid trail traffic, I would recommend using the path this app has for the way down both ways, much better views.

It’s tough. It’s absolutely beautiful and worth the time! Typical time is 5 hours for the loop. We made it in 4.5 and stopped for lunch on top. Take lots of photos, wear layers it’s cold up top! Enjoy

Well marked and easy to follow. Like the other reviews say, most of the climbing is in the last mile or so. Wind was mild when I got up there, and still no snow!
