This was a fine outing. A good deal of climbing, plenty of switchbacks. You get some nice views of Lake Tahoe as you ascend. Marlette Lake is quaint and you can just about see Lake Tahoe and Marlette at the same time. Highly recommend trekking poles for the descent.. the trail is also used by mountain bikes in certain parts, but I only saw a handful near the end.

Good short hike. The lake is quite beautiful. Worth the trip. The first half of the hike, 2mi., is at 30%&40% grade. Plenty of places to re-up on water(filter) if necessary. I took 3 liters which was just right. So after the 2 miles it levels off in a lot places so that you can recuperate if necessary. Not for beginners!! Happy Trails!!

Gorgeous but fairly steep hike. You can take a dip in Marlette lake at the top and then Tahoe at the end.

9/13/19: Rigorous hike, only for the conditioned hiker. The walk to the lake is just under 4 miles of almost exclusively uphill. It says 6 miles but we clocked closer to 7.8 miles total. It's very scenic with views of Tahoe the majority up, many shaded areas, and mixed scenery/vegetation to admire. Saw tons of butterflies at one part of the trail. Didn't have any issues with mosquitos. The lake is pristine and isolated. The rigorous hike up is worth it for the beautiful lake and knowing the hike back will be mild. We were the only people at the lake that we saw at approximately 3 pm on a Tuesday. During our hike we passed maybe 4 groups of mountain bikers and 3-4 groups of people hiking. We hiked with 3 dogs so had to be careful to get them out of the mountain bikers path.

great hike, challenging in spots on the way up. very pretty views all the way up and Lake Marlette is beautiful. Bring plenty to drink. we packed lunch and had it at the lake. I would go early in the morning well the trail is shaded and there is parking still available. we started around 9 am and finished around 2:30pm we also did the hike with 3 kids and had lunch at the lake. Lots of bike riders so you have to get over for them a lot.

Great hike. Nice to get away from all the crowds at Lake Tahoe. Steep climbs all the way up. Make sure your in shape!!

Hiked on 7/19 with my dog. No snow on the trail. Mosquitos weren’t awful but they were definitely out. The hike to the lake is all uphill and definitely not for someone out of shape. Lots of shade to stop for breaks. Not much running water until you get closer to the lake. Stay left when the trail splits around 2.5 miles. Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe nearly the whole hike. A few mountain bikers flying down the trail so be careful and ready to move out of the way! Saw some people fishing and kayaking on Marlette when we got there. The lake was beautiful! Should have brought a suit to jump in. I walked a little farther past what is shown on this map and ended up hiking 8 miles total.

Did this with 2 dogs in tow on 6/26. Snow is mostly gone. Uphill for most of the trek in. Beautiful vistas of Lake Tahoe. Around 3/4 of the hike in the trail splits. Stay left or else the hike will get much longer. Not one mosquito but the wind probably helped. Marlette is gorgeous and very cold still.

Pretty steep at the beginning! Well marked trail with a little bit of shade. Very little snow left when I hiked 6/15.

6/14 The weather was perfect and the lake was so quiet and beautiful . Jumped in for a quick dip and then headed back . The uphill trek up to the lake was challenging

5/26 - Beautiful views of Tahoe and the surrounding mountains! However, the trail basically dissapears after about 2.5 miles and we were only able to reach views of the lake because of the AllTrails GPS. Got lost several times and saw many bear tracks. The lake is still mostly frozen over and snowy. I would definitely recommend waiting a month or two until the snow is melted.

limited on time, excited to return . view comes quick

Exhilarating uphill climb. Kept having to break beneath trees to get out of the rain. Beautiful views of Tahoe. Fun trail. Will definitely do it in better weather. Even though we wore good boots, had to turn back because of higher and higher snow drifts on the path. We were able to go 1.5 miles before turning back in rain. Incredible views all the way back. A must!

Snow coverage got pretty heavy by the end of the hike at the top of the lake. Still completed the whole thing without show shoes/spikes. Would recommend poles at a minimum if you aren't super confident (we slipped a few times) but otherwise a great early season hike! Great views of the lake!

* parking locked up for the season when we went.(11_12_18).hard to find parking nearby as there are lots of "no parking" signs posted along roadside. *lower part of trail was great. * creek water for the dogs. * where trail splits off- we initially missed this and hiked a couple miles before realizing we had missed our line. * backtracked to the split and this portion has been discouraged for hikers by logs, rocks, etc a lot along the way to the lake. Not sure why? *it was a great hike nevertheless- many beautiful views. The lake was stunning , as always. We were the only people on this trail. *had a wonderful time, despite the unknown reason for the "upper" trail being discouraged.

A tough but beautiful hike. Many of trees and ferns were in full fall splendor and the views of Lake Tahoe were spectacular. The cool fall temperatures made for perfect hiking weather as the climb is steep and at times a bit grueling. The wind came up just as I reached the lake, which is peaceful and also showing hints of fall. A few pointers - when leaving the lake, keep to the left (or better yet track your journey with the app), getting off course is easy. Also, there are mountain bikes on the trail, so be alert.

lets just start out with the hike up is not the best, nice steady incline that you will feel later, but worth it. the hike was amazing, with the fall colors it was so beautiful. nice sandy trail easy on my pups paws. all around a great hike and can't wait to do it again. Marlette lake was beautiful and peaceful. when you take the left in the fork in the road and end up entering by the dam. make sure on the way back to go to your left to take the same trail back.

Love the lake! Didn't enjoy the climb up to the top and then all the way back down. Definitely a much more intense hike than most people are used to with a pack! Not many options for camping but we did find a nice spot on the other side of the lake, we required another mile of hiking.

Beautiful trail. The way to the lake is mostly uphill. Wasn’t too crowded. Few mountain bikers and everyone was super polite. Got slightly lost. About 2 miles in there’s a fork in the trail so make sure you go left. Marlette Lake is beautiful and peaceful. it was so empty it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

Sure was wonderful to be hiking in Tahoe again! Had a blast with the amazing granite boulders everywhere. Great overlooks of the forest and Tahoe. Had a fun time seeing Marlette Lake. Only saw one other couple while on this trail. Flowers are starting to bloom.

At about the halfway point to the lake the trail is almost completely covered in snow. There are enough footprints to find your way on it, but it just started to become a pain in the ass to walk in the stuff so I turned back. Maybe give this one a few more weeks to thaw out
