Prettt easy trail for anyone with at least 8 inches of ground clearance and 4 wheel drive/All wheel drive (Almost all SUVs and trucks fit this, I drive a stock VW Atlas with 4Motion). A few up hill (or down hill depending on your direction) rocky sections to take your time on but a pretty good trail nonetheless to kill an hour or two and do some wheeling. I went alone and had a good time winding through the mountains. You can start on whichever side you want but the north side is outside of the lake mead recreation area so you’ll have to pay to get into the lake if that’s your plan. I exited the north side and looped around to Hollywood Blvd.

My first off road trail with my new 4x4. Arguably don't need 4x4, it's an easy trail, but good for beginners.

This is an easy trail as I didn't need to use 4x4, but I do recommend high clearance. No shade at all. Entire trip takes about 1 hour if you start on the Hollywood entrance and end on Lake Mead. This is not a loop trail, there is already a loop trail recorded as Lava Butte on ALL TRAILS with a difficult rating. When you come across a wash the trail splits into another trail called KODAKCHROME to the left but to continue on Lava Butte, remain straight to the little steep hill. There is a giant red dirt hill about 3/4 ways into the trail if you'd like to try your luck, if you're headed north it'll be on your right side, you will need 4x4 to conquer this hill but it's off the trail and only an option. I'd recommend this trail for anyone starting to get into off roading. *Great scenic views of the city behind
