Description

This is a hike that is difficult to follow so you sometimes feel you are off trail. If you want an easier to navigate hike, try the loop trail from the same trailhead. From the parking lot you follow the Kraft Mountain loop trail and go up Hell Hill Trail. (15-20mins) Then through Rattlesnake Trail you'll come to a junction, go right onto Upper Gateway Canyon Trail. From there the peak is literally in front of you, you just have to make sure you're not wasting your time going up the wrong one. If you walk up the UGC Trail, you'll see the trail, but not too visible. Don't give up when you can't find it, because you're so close! About an hour-1.5hrs each way at a slow & steady pace with minor breaks in between.

I absolutely love Kraft Mountain, possibly I'm somewhat addicted to this scramble. there are numerous ways to the peak, I've Scrambled all over Kraft, including signing the log 28 times now in just the last year. most of those ways were different routes/ as Kraft I like to say is the Mountain that just keeps giving. if you want some class 4, it has plenty, especially going up the face or coming up around the Northeast backside. plenty of class 4 that route. though there are also plenty of ways to stay on a class 2 route and stay in your comfort zone, coming the Hell Hill route. I would also recommend going up either the far west side, then traversing the entire Mountain and coming down the back Northeast side. it's a lot of fun, plus adds in some nice challenging scrambling. this Mountain is good for everyone, beginners to advanced, it has it all and the routes are fairly easy to find. if you're looking for the easiest scramble route go up Hell Hill southeast side, at the top turn East where you will work your way up with only class 2 scrambling. this peak is good for beginners and yet has other routes that are much more challenging. awesome Mountain and great view of the strip from the peak

Fun trail. Very difficult when scrambling up the creek bed to the peak. Only made it half way up. Came down by following the creek bed back to the parking lot. Definitely recommend doing it as a loop. Will try again to make it to the top.

Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into wth this one but oh what an accomplishment! It was a hard climb up. Coming down the backside was a breeze compared to climbing up the front. Would do it again but maybe climb up in a different area.

The skinny: not that exciting of a hike, almost teases you with just doing Turtlehead Peak as opposed to trying to find Kraft Mountain peak. From the parking lot you follow the Kraft Mountain loop trail and go up Hell Hill Trail. (15-20mins) Then through Rattlesnake Trail you'll come to a junction, go right onto Upper Gateway Canyon Trail. From there the peak is literally in front of you, you just have to make sure you're not wasting your time going up the wrong one. awesome hike overall, saw a gila monster scurry by once in the wash area. trails do seem to disappear easily. sandstone cliffs are beautiful.

I'm still not sure if I actually did it. the closer you get to the mountain, the harder it got to make out the trail. it does have a nice view and a good mix inclines and declines.
