Great scenery with several rock scramble challenges. Although dog friendly, users note that this is not an ideal hike for most dogs since it is very rocky and requires scrambling. Users have suggested downloading the offline map before you go since cell service is spotty in this area.

A lot more rock scrambling than other descriptions said but nothing too crazy. Beautiful scenery.
Wonderful Trail. For a beginner, its a well-rounded tough hike with a good ascend, great geological significance, a few tricky scrambling spots at the wash (Gateway Canyon), and wonderful Petroglyphs. I started at the West end of the parking lot, so from the left, facing Kraft Mnt and took the clockwise route. Went up the steep hill to the meeting of Calico Hills and Kraft Mountain ridge. Went through the “saddle”, enjoying the beautiful colored boulders and the different thrust layers (Keystone Thrust Fault). Followed a bit towards Turtle Head until the trail led me smoothly down to the wash and turned right. Scrambled a bit, which was made harder with my 10lbs Chihuahua companion, and got lost a bit until I saw other hikers coming the opposite way that led me back on route. Companion and I arrived safely on the gentle last 1/3 of the hike. Enjoyed watching petroglyphs and free boulder climbers. Two Recommendations: It will be difficult to juggle scarmbling with your 4-legged companion but not impossible; And, hiking at peak times along other hikers will help you find your way at “negotiable trail” times.
I forgot to turn my app off after we left the area. This hike is about 3-4 miles NOT 15. It was beautiful!!!
Wonderful desert trail. Rocky & hot with some big/tricky rock climbing jumps for dogs. Had to pick them up a few times but they made it
AllTrails didn’t quite follow the actual trail but figured it out. Other than that great trail.
Too hard for us, we had to turn back. The large boulders were too steep for us (we went counter clockwise). Also had trouble following the trail. But pretty trail and fun to watch the people rock climbing.
We did the trail counter clockwise and it was easier seeing how to climb up the rocks. We saw a lot of people practicing rock climbing. The Trail is missing trail markers on the back of the mountain. Towards the end you descend on very loose gravel so be careful.
Loved this one! It was so fun and very scenic! I followed everyone's advice on here and did it counter-clockwise and very well recommended. So much easier going up rocks than going down. Also not very much rock climbing involved (if you could call it that. I call it parkour!) I have little to no upper body strength so if I could climb/parkour up the rocks then you should have no problem. Downhill the entire time during the end which could be a slip and slide if you don't watch your step. I'd recommend hiking shoes for sure or at least shoes with grip. Pay attention to the sign towards half of the trail in that leads you to go up for the second half. It's very easy to miss. Last little to no cell reception if you have tmobile!
Great views and so much fun climbing rocks! Variety of terrain. We took the loop counter clockwise. Make sure to pay attention the switch back on the far side of the canyon.. we missed it and had to back track a bit. If you feel like you’re on gravel too long, you’ve gone too far.
Beautiful hike, nice scenery most of the way and some nice views. However, the trail is not well marked and it can be difficult to follow at times. Around the peak, you have to get off the wash trail and start going up the mountain heading back. That spot is quite hidden between trees and if I wasn't with someone who's hiked this before, I would have definitely gotten lost. You're walking in a wash for a good amount of the hike so wear something with good traction. There were plenty of people rock climbing at the beginning of the hike but afterwards was pretty empty. Parking lot was fairly full but still has spots in the mid afternoon when we started.
