This is a pleasant trail indeed, moderate. Around its halfway point, you can look west at a beautiful distant view of Lake Tahoe and also turn directly east and stare out into the plains and see the beginnings of desert in Nevada. Short, pleasant hike, a good stretch, not time consuming, you can fit it into your day if you're busy doing a lot. It feels like an appetizer hike. I just arrived in Lake Tahoe last night, so this hike to me felt like a nice intro to the scenery and atmosphere. Also of note: I walked from a place I was staying at, so my route is a bit longer then actual trail route itself.

Once you were on the trail it was well defined, but at several points the trail disappeared due to downed trees. My recommendation is to follow the Tahoe Rim Trail path, as it ran mostly parallel. Very little snow though you could walk around it or beside it without it impeding passage. Good mix of sunny and shade.

Go left on trail, to the Bench!

Very easy to get on the wrong trail. Depending on how far you go you have views of Tahoe and the Carson City valley.

Totally snowed in, could not find trail! Maybe in another month.

Good views. Trail is not clearly marked so it can get confusing to go down another trail path.

As you come up to the loop, make a left turn. It is much more beautiful and picturesque that way. We then continued up the Tahoe rim Trail for 2 miles until we turned back around and then went back down the loop the way we came. Very beautiful and very good exercise, it was almost 7 miles for us. But as you can see, I only recorded the return trip.

Compared to other recent hikes, this one was "ok," 3 1/2 stars. Views not so amazing. Hike down at the top was a sandy slope.

This hike was close to where we stayed, and a great one. Gorgeous scenery with views of both Tahoe Lake & the Carson Valley. The only thing we would have done differently is when we started off we went right at the fork & we'd turn left instead. The uphill to the right was very steep & intense, & hard for kids, but it would have been more doable, although still a good workout if going to the left. Great hike!!

Rode this trail with a friend on horseback just halfway to "the bench". It was a windy, windy day and we stayed out of it the majority of the ride except for the last 400 yards to the bench. Got off a couple times due to "knee-knocker" boulders, but in general, it's a nice ride. Out and back, with a couple stops for pix and to eat a quick bite was 5 hours at a steady walk. Horses should be relatively fit and used to "rock-climbing".

Take a map and make sure you stay on trail you planned to go on. We took a trail from a trail and got lost for about 3hrs turns out we were on the Pacific Rim Trail heading towards the Spooner Summit. And then had to turn back cause it was never-ending. Trail is definitely not for beginners. Total I think we hiked about 20miles and we only wanted to go on a 1hr long hike. Great hike if you're experienced.
