As you come up to the loop, make a left turn. It is much more beautiful and picturesque that way. We then continued up the Tahoe rim Trail for 2 miles until we turned back around and then went back down the loop the way we came. Very beautiful and very good exercise, it was almost 7 miles for us. But as you can see, I only recorded the return trip.

Compared to other recent hikes, this one was "ok," 3 1/2 stars. Views not so amazing. Hike down at the top was a sandy slope.

This hike was close to where we stayed, and a great one. Gorgeous scenery with views of both Tahoe Lake & the Carson Valley. The only thing we would have done differently is when we started off we went right at the fork & we'd turn left instead. The uphill to the right was very steep & intense, & hard for kids, but it would have been more doable, although still a good workout if going to the left. Great hike!!

horseback riding
Tuesday, October 04, 2016

Rode this trail with a friend on horseback just halfway to "the bench". It was a windy, windy day and we stayed out of it the majority of the ride except for the last 400 yards to the bench. Got off a couple times due to "knee-knocker" boulders, but in general, it's a nice ride. Out and back, with a couple stops for pix and to eat a quick bite was 5 hours at a steady walk. Horses should be relatively fit and used to "rock-climbing".

Take a map and make sure you stay on trail you planned to go on. We took a trail from a trail and got lost for about 3hrs turns out we were on the Pacific Rim Trail heading towards the Spooner Summit. And then had to turn back cause it was never-ending. Trail is definitely not for beginners. Total I think we hiked about 20miles and we only wanted to go on a 1hr long hike. Great hike if you're experienced.
