did this hike yesterday. deff better waterfalls out there, the trail is steep lots of switch backs. in a few spots the trail splits into 2 it is the same trail they come back together. my hiking partner broke her ankle with a mile left had 9 EMTs and 3 search and rescue come get her off the trail. coming down again its steep and are loose rocks on the trail. be careful trail running shoes or something with alot of good tread recommended. luckily had cell service most of the way.

one way recorded only. 2 hr 50 minutes total

Great trail with amazing views of the Carson Valley. Trail is well maintained and we had no problem navigating it. There was plenty of shade and the wildflower were plentiful. The waterfall at the end was totally worth it!

There's better waterfall and Creek trails out there, but this is still a great trail.

Well maintained trail that is easy to follow and with decent birding. Took about 2 hrs 15 minutes with several stops for birding and looking at wildflowers. Bitterbrush, lupine, wild onion, currant and others in bloom on 6/1/2019 and good flow at the waterfall.

Nice trail and a good hike. A few sections of the trail are narrow and run along some steep edges but the waterfall at the end was great. Was a nice option when the weather closer to Lake Tahoe was a bit chilly to hike on that side of the mountain range.

Beautiful scenery, a wonderful spring afternoon hike. Waterfall was a lovely and relaxing feature. Recommend for those looking for a more challenging hike with beautiful views along the way. Butterflies will follow along during this hike.

Definitely the most strenuous of the three trails in this area. Fairly steep switchbacks and drop offs for the first two miles, then it levels out a bit. Ran into snow covering the trail about 2.5 miles in and didn’t have time to deal with microspikes so I turned around. That said, not sure how long the snow goes on for. Beautiful views of the Carson Valley throughout.

Steep trail, but the recent rain kept the gravel and small rocks from being as loose and slippery as they are in the summer. Ran into just four other people, though I got a late start because I went after work. Gorgeous fall hiking weather!

Relatively steep at the beginning but easy of after about a mile. Well shaded by trees so good for summer. The waterfall is a nice end point. Hiked it yesterday. The waterfall had a surprising flow considering that there has been no measurable rain for over 100 days.

pretty hard for being moderate, the water fall is tiny . either way this was very challenging and quite enjoyable

I agree with recent reviewers on details. Views are amazing, waterfall just ok LOL If your knees give trouble use hiking sticks on way back. We kept a brisk pace and it took a few hours or less. Not too well marked so you wonder if on trail sometimes, but you probably are.

This trail is easily accessed from the town of Genoa and the trailhead has parking for about 12 cars. I did this hike on the 4th of July and only saw 8 other hikers, 3 mountain bikers, and 1 dog. The hike starts out steep with switchbacks climbing steadily up for about 2 miles. It is partially shaded, but it was about 70 deg when I started out and that was plenty. The climb is more moderate after that point with some ups and downs until you get to a stream crossing and then the waterfall shortly thereafter. The area in the canyon near the waterfall is lovely with more shade and lush plants. I continued on from that point along the Discovery Trail until I got to the Sierra Canyon stream and then turned around at that point. That portion of the trail continued to be fairly moderate with ups and downs but no big change in elevation. There were wildflowers, several species of butterflies, and one rattlesnake sighted (by someone else). Overall, it was very nice and certainly a hike I would repeat.
