Very nice mtb trail, plenty of shade to rest in. I'm terrified of heights so was a little bit anxiety producing at some points due to steep edge. Would definitely do again.

A good mix of sun and shade. On a Sunday late morning, early afternoon there were not too many people. Would hike again, with my dogs

Nice trail, but it can get narrow. There’s not a lot of room to stop and let someone pass. Makes it really hard with a pup. I won’t be bringing mine next time too steep and narrow. A lot of switchbacks too. I’d would definitely do it again though mins the pup.

This is a nice hike with a beautiful view of the Carson Valley. Shade can be limited so this would be an awesome Spring or late afternoon/evening.

Great dog friendly trail. Lots of trees. We arrived about 11 and only two other cars but when we came down about 4, parking area was full. Saw two streams that were only trickling. Hiked down off the trail to a tiny creek. Not a trail if you want lakes and lots of water views.

Nice hike. Trail is moderate to easy with several options. We chose to take the trail up towards Spooner Summit but turned around at the 5 mile mark making for a 10 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain of 1689'. There are quite a few switch backs but they are very flat so you don't notice the climb. Beautiful views of the Carson Valley.

What a delightful trail, so much shade. A few streams but for the east side this was great

Switch back the whole way. Incline on the way out, downgrade on the way back. First half up I’m there’s no shade. Two little streams crossing the trail.

The climb is fairly constant, but not steep, so you don't feel the strain of a steep climb. Saw people of all ages... many families with kids, seniors in bikes, and everybody in between. Great time for all. This trail meets with others if you want to hike a loop, but the destination is the Tahoe rim. we didn't pack food, so we only went about halfway, but look forward to hiking the entire trail.

Loved this area! My favorite that I’ve come across in awhile. Was confused towards the end and never made it to the actual ridge to see the view of Tahoe, am hoping I can find it next time without getting off trail. But overall a really good hike and beautiful area

Great hike. Hiked two miles in taking advantage of this mild winter. No snow or moisture on trail. Became very windy near Adams Canyon. Good hike for a intermediate hiker.

This is a nice trail with many options. I would have to say this is not an easy trail. The views of the valley are awesome.

Definitely not easy. I picked this trail as we had only arrived to the Tahoe area last night and thought I’d get a relatively easy hike to get accustomed to the altitude. I was wrong. It was an almost steady climb the whole time up with few shaded level parts (it was also nearly 90 degrees F, which didn’t help). Might have been easier if I had been accustomed to the altitude - who knows. The last mile to the end is a bit more shaded than the first 2/3 of the way. Nice views of the valley. Only saw one other hiker and two mountain bikers the whole time.

AT reads 'easy'. I would not call this trail 'easy'. Sagehen is easy. In any event fairly steep ascents. Switchbacks and lots of sun exposure. Trail is clean. Non-technical. Views of the Valley are stunning. So stop take that selfie and enjoy the views. Trail follows the canyon so it's pretty impressive to look back towards the canyon that you just traveled thru. Be aware of the mtn bikes. Best part was an ice cold beer at the 'oldest thirsty parlor' in Genoa. All in all it's a lovely hike to do early morning due to sun exposure. Happy Trails

This hike can be difficult! My 83-year-old father and I started in the morning and around 10:00 we headed back down the trail. A lot of climbing and not much shade. The views are amazing and I would definitely go again. I probably would not take my 9 year-year old twins even though they hike a lot with me.

This one is a walk in the woods - a sweet little meandering trail that never gets too strenuous and offers scenic views of the Carson Valley below. The trail follows the curves of the canyon and was quite kid friendly once you get past the initial ascent. We saw several mountain bikers today, so be aware of this, especially with the frequent blind spots around switch backs.

Nice trail, steep at times and a lot of switch backs. Great views of the valley. For a novice MTB rider such as myself this is definitely a moderate trail.

Hiking

There is quite a bit of elevation gain with this hike so I would really say this is more towards moderate than easy. Very well maintained trail, although the end just blends into the Sierra Canyon trail so keep going if you want! You will probably run into mountain bikers and a few other hikers. Great views of the valley and the 2nd half is shaded but the trail overall can be a little warm in the summer months so go early.
