Nice hike through Tahoe forest to Castle Rock. Beautiful views. Good rock climbing if you want to go to the top. Trail markings are somewhat confusing, as the hike joins and then leaves a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

If you're in search of a quick and light hike, I recommend this trail. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon and the parking area had only 2 other vehicles in it; it could probably fit approximately 10. There was no charge to park and no permit required; while hiking we only encountered 2 other individuals. One was on a bike and the other hiking out with his dog so it was pretty lightly trafficked at that hour. The hike takes you through a lovely forest and periodically opens for some epic views of the mountains, Lake Tahoe, and Castle Rock. It's an easy and lovely hike if you're pressed for time. #CastleRockSpyderMonkeys

Beautiful views! Dog loved it, but couldn't scramble up the boulders to the top (or couldn't find the right path up).
