Nice hike through Tahoe forest to Castle Rock. Beautiful views. Good rock climbing if you want to go to the top. Trail markings are somewhat confusing, as the hike joins and then leaves a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Most of trail easy to traverse. Near Castle Rock have to scramble up to get views of Lake Tahoe

Amazing views and great workout. Some uphills to it but nothing too strenuous. Very happy with this hike and highly recommend. We saw dozens of chipmunks and a lot of wild flowers!

This was a great Saturday hike. Went about 3pm on Saturday and no problem parking. Hike had good views to start and then some ok forest time and not to long to castle rock. Once you get to Castle Rock and if you climb up the view is amazing. Had the rock all to myself for half hour and just amazing view of the lake.

Easy walk in the woods. We walked it in an hour. Not the view we expected. Only a quick look over the lake in the beginning of the trail...

Great trail, beautiful views. Be wary of taking the wrong loop back. There was still snow here and there (mid may). Great for older kids (7+) and dogs.

Nice lake views at the beginning. Had to manage walking on snow in mid April.

Great loop route with spectacular westerly views of Lake Tahoe. We hiked through approximately 6” of fresh snow which was fine. Beautiful forest.

Great for climbers (once you get to the rock). Short & perfect hike. Enjoy the view at the end!

Great day up at Castle Rock, 2/10/18. Minimal snow and ice on trail, but really no need for yak tracks. A dozen other people hiking the trail. View is always amazing. Got a little windy, so wear a hat. When you get to Castle Rock stay high to right to see the lake view :)

Close to accommodations, easy access and decent parking. No big elevation change, so it is good for the first hikes to help acclimate at this altitude. Spectacular scenery, trails well maintained but slippery at times. Not crowded. Great for dogs! Great for photography!

Great hike beautiful view.

Great hike...spectacular view if you make up on Castle Rock.... be wary of trail splits...easy to miss trail if not careful and it helps to review map....
For quickest rout...park at lower lot and that trail to Castle Rock...the trail does loop around back to upper parking lot if you choose longer rout...

Beautiful views half mile from Kingsbury TRT trailhead. Views from Chimney Rock absolutely beautiful. Very little snow this year in this area.

This is a fantastic hike!
GPS will take you to a residence where an older gentlemen is prepared to redirect you down the road.
There are some ascending parts of the trail that will elevate heartrate, but nothing difficult. Very peaceful, foresty, and the view at the end is amazing!
You will see Tahoe and trees for miles on the CA Side and then the desert Sierra's on the other side.
You can choose to climb the rocks at the end for an even more magnificent view.
All in all, a great experience and hits all the points that make a trail manageable to enjoy!
Dogs will love the hike too.

Great hike! We went after the first snow of the season and it was gorgeous. Lots of snow on the sides of the trail and on the trees and beautiful views of Nevada and Lake Tahoe. We had the whole hike to ourselves save for one woman and her dog. This hike was perfect for us as we have two elderly dogs. Great location, easy parking, highly recommended.

If you're in search of a quick and light hike, I recommend this trail. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon and the parking area had only 2 other vehicles in it; it could probably fit approximately 10. There was no charge to park and no permit required; while hiking we only encountered 2 other individuals. One was on a bike and the other hiking out with his dog so it was pretty lightly trafficked at that hour. The hike takes you through a lovely forest and periodically opens for some epic views of the mountains, Lake Tahoe, and Castle Rock. It's an easy and lovely hike if you're pressed for time. #CastleRockSpyderMonkeys

Beautiful views! Dog loved it, but couldn't scramble up the boulders to the top (or couldn't find the right path up).

Great hike: easy 3 mile loop but in the middle, you start to make the trek upwards and then come to a pile of beautiful boulders. If you climb the rocks straight up, you come to a full view of Lake Tahoe. Great for kids that have hiked before (the rock climbing part would be difficult for small kids or those that do not hike regularly). We had a group with kids ages 15-6 and we were fine.

This is a fun trail run or hike with the kids. It has the quintessential large granite boulders that are found all around Tahoe and tall beautiful trees that keep you in awe around every corner. The trail does get a little confusing right at the end, where it meets the Castle Rock. Just climb around on the rocks and go to the other side to get a great view of Tahoe.

Great hike, fantastic views. The loop is very easy to follow, but the summit hike gets lost a bit towards the top. I ended up having a bit of a rock climb for the route I picked, which was a bit off the trail.
