As of July 2019, parking lot and restrooms are closed for repairs. Nice hike through Tahoe forest to Castle Rock. Beautiful views. Good rock climbing if you want to go to the top. Trail markings are somewhat confusing, as the hike joins and then leaves a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Awesome trail. Good mixture of open and shaded areas. Seems like some awesome rock climbing up at the top. Don’t go all the way to the top though. There are falcons nesting up there.

Amazing trail, kinda confusing how they all converge but it's marked clearly and the hike and views are amazing

We snowshoed this trail in early January, counterclockwise from the parking lot. I recommend this direction, as we thought the most beautiful parts of the hike (roling forest and views of the lake) were at the beginning-middle and felt okay with zipping past residential areas towards the end. The trail was very easy to follow, even in the snow. The vista point provides the best view of Lake Tahoe. Reaching the vista was probably the most strenous part of the trail, but I would say it was moderate at most, even in snowshoes.

beautiful views of the South lake, and the trail is not difficult and was very clear in the snow. Currently, the snow is a few feet deep and I wouldn't go without snow shoes.

So, the majority of the trails in the Nevada side if South Lake Tahoe form an interconnected network. Like others, I started elsewhere and took this trail when I came upon it. The trail is well kept, very clean, well marked. Nice views. Definitely worth doing.

Did this hike with my 62 year old mom (we are from Michigan) and it definitely wore her out. BUT, I highly recommend it, it’s beautiful! The top gets quite rocky.

Great hike with not too much elevation gain considering we’re in the mountains. Trail was pretty dusty but the beautiful views out over the lake from Castle Rock made it all worthwhile. Well marked but you should pay attention to the trail markers for the turn off to castle rock.

New public parking lot with bathrooms is now open (well, the bathrooms were still locked, but guessing that’ll change soon). Trail is well marked except when you get close to the high rocks. We found it best to stay to the right and work around the rocks counter clockwise. Great views!!

All Trails App helped a lot. Great trail. Last bit of the Castle Rock Loop a bit treacherous but easy to double back if you don’t like it.

I think we would have preferred doing it counterclockwise. The Tahoe Rim Trail portion of this loop was the more scenic part. We didn’t climb to the top of Castle Rock but even going partway really improved the view. For two people who haven’t hiked much of recent and live at sea level it wasn’t overly hard. The trail was loose sand in some parts. The cinnamon/vanilla smell off the pines was wonderful.

Just enough for our group of sub amateur hikers to have a workout and still have fun. Beautiful abounding views.

Really nice trail. Not too strenuous for the occasional hiker, with shaded spots throughout providing cover from the sun on hot days. Like several recent reviews have stated, there is construction near the trial entrance, and therefore the designated parking area is closed. But when we arrived there were countless street-parked cars near the construction gate which did not seem to be an issue. Once we got to Castle Rock, the final ascent does require some basic bouldering skills (anyone who doesn’t mind a few minutes of uphill steps and recognizing the safest route up...shouldn’t have any problems doing this task). The view at the top is breathtaking. We did the rest of the loop afterwards. Total time hiking was under 2 hours! Oh one more thing. Several views stated to watch out for signs “closing off the route to the top of Castle Rock” due to a falcons’ nest at the top. Didn’t see any signs or falcons. So perhaps they’re gone now?

Great short easy trail. Very easy to follow. Beautiful views. Access to parking currently closed because of construction.

Really good trail. Not too long or overly difficult. My sister and I took our time and got some really good pics along the way. Really enjoyed it. Falcons nesting near the top of the rock keep you from making the entire loop(signs are in place) but you can still get most of the trail.
