Wonderful nice hills , beautiful spring woodland flowers, peaceful and lots of birds too! Trail was mostly dry, just a little damp in spots.
Some mud and ice but nothing too discouraging. Put on microspikes once I got to Columbine as it was icy in spots. The stairs on north end of Settlers into the hollow was a mud slick, so I descended to the side through the snow. Those stairs need to be replaced.
In winter downhill trails can be very slippery.Often the footing is better off trail.
The village of Nashville is North-West of Neale Woods.
great trail, cold of course in December so wear adequate layers. trails well maintained
The park rangers have done a great job opening up the hill tops to the Sun. This allows more native species to thrive and makes for a more enjoyable walk.
$5 entry fee. Beautiful tall grass, forest, and rolling hills. Came very close to a deer but didn’t see other wildlife besides squirrels. Almost no one here on a weekday afternoon and the hills make it a good workout. Main downside was the mud... slipped more than once lif I hadn’t come the day after a lot of ice/rain, probably would’ve been 5 stars for me
Fall colors. Great when dry. Note the sunken foundation of an earthen lodge near the river lookout
Both Fox and Maidenhair side trails are winding and steep. They are best enjoyed at a more relaxed pace.
