I LOVED DeSoto. What a beautiful nature preserve! The visitor center is amazing, with lots of exhibits and information about the wildlife. The woman at the desk recommended taking a scenic drive around the 12 mile tour road, and then hiking some of the small trails. I did the 1.5 mile loop through the prairie from the visitor center, then hopped in my car and did the driving tour. It was beautiful, with many spots to get out and explore and take pictures. I also hiked the cottonwood/grassland loop, as well as the little extension to the pond. It was a pretty hike, and there was lots of cool info over by the pond. Good mix of prairie, forest, and views of the water. These trails also had the prettiest wildflowers I’ve seen since I started hiking. Overall I highly recommend!
