Beautiful route that's very simple with a great variety of trees and flowers. Note: If dogs are not under positive voice control, they must be leashed. Please remove pet waste with the provided mutt mitts.
We started at dolar lake and did a 4 mile loop. After hiking part of reservoir trail on other side of whitefish lake. It was beautiful because there was light snow the whole time otherwise it would maybe be a little unimpressive. Dolar was not in all trails app to rate but I wanted people to know this trail area offers a variety of routes and mileage. Saw fresh deer tracks in snow but no wildlife. Saw deer on the drive out.
My “go to” from town ride. Best in spring and fall when there’s less foot traffic and you can really haul ass.
I only did about 5km (10 return) of the trail - really nice and shady, but I realised too late that this is off leash for dogs (sign at trail head) which is not great when you have yours on lead (prey drive) and dogs (several different times) came running up out of nowhere with their humans not in sight into my dog's face.. fortunately no incidents, but never good having leash and off leash dog interact - I was just visiting the area, so no drama for me to not return, but wanted to advise others when they are planning their adventures!
Heavily wooded trail with easy access from main road. I enjoyed it for early morning run while in town.
Fun trail. Fun but challanging.Whole family really enjoyed the ride!
Beautiful trail to summit of lion mountain. Unfortunately the clouds and snow began before we reached the top and the view was obscured.
We hiked swift creek to smith lake. Relatively little elevation gain so easy with kids. Map says 2.6 each way but my tracker said 6 round trip from the swift creek trailhead. My 2&7 year old kids went swimming in the lake. The area was fairly dry and dusty but the forest sections were nice and cool. Only saw 2 mountain bikers and a handful of other hikers. Excellent trail conditions.
This trail is actually a handful of small trails w/ different trailheads all linked together. It's part of the Whitefish Trail System. It'd be nice if the different loops and trailheads were entered into the system separate in order to track mileage in one area or another. Even just to know where all the access points are, instead of just calling it one big trail.
my wife and I Kayaked the river, we are experienced Kayakers and canoeist and at first thought the info was correct, class 1 suitable for beginners. On the river just below Hodgson rd we ran into white water and a complete log jam with a very bad "strainer" our kayaks and all our gear got pulled under along with us, we were lucky to make it out alive. The important thing is that other people be warned of this danger so some family with small children do not die on that strech of river.
