Do you enjoy the loud droning of side by sides an ATVs? Do you love trails and wetlands ripped up by motorcycles? Do you prefer trash, bullet casings, and fishing line in your campsite? If you do, this is the trail for you! The trail itself was a nice hike (minus the portions ruined by illegal dirt bikes), with some nice views. Even the mountains surround the lake are stunning, but the area around the lake has been completely destroyed by people, from heavily impacted campsites, to people actually driving across the outlet to the lake! You actually have to walk the 4x4 trail to get to the second lake, there is no hiking trail. We were so disappointed and sad that we decided to turn around immediately and not camp, even though we backpacked all our gear in. My GPS clocked the mileage at 10.2 miles total from the parking lot. Also, the trail is a nice single track! It seems like a lot of people miss this and go up the 4x4 road which is a lot shorter. The actual trail is very steep and about 5 miles each way.

The actual trailhead starts further up the road but I started about where the map here says too. I went up to spend the night and I started around 3. I had to posthole for 3ish miles which sucked but getting to the lakes up top was a sweet. I found a dirt spot to camp for the night - freezing. It’s crisp, and from what I can tell it’s clean and it was overall an enjoyable trip. Totally doable during this time just takes a little pushin through the snow. May 16-17, 2020

Trail is a little hard to find and not marked well. AllTrails map has trail head at incorrect location. You need to follow Forest Service Road 965 to the Trail Head, The trail is called N. Meadow Creek Trail No. 340 from the trail head to Twin Lake is about 3miles one way but that doesn’t include walking FSR 965 to trail head. I hiked it Mother’s Day May 2020 most of the trail still had 2+ feet of packed snow, it’s a snow mobile trail in winter. The lakes were still frozen over. Would be a awesome place to camp when it melts out.

I found a warm day in late April. No surprise that the trail was packed snow for the whole trip. Beautiful scenery and great for taking dogs along.

The lake is great but the hike just follows the forest service road.
