Beautiful trail! The hike was long and steep the whole way to the lake. The lake and all the other water features (waterfalls in the distance, springs, and river) were all breathtaking! Even some awesome places to swim . I’d say it should be more classified as moderate to hard but it was awesome and very gratifying :)

Absolutely gorgeous hike, some steep parts, but mostly a nice easy level hike. The trail is very rocky so advise good shoes. So lovely where it followed the river and lots of the hike was shaded, so nice when it got hot. Very heavily traveled, so recommend getting there early.

An amazing day hike. Perfect for beginners. Most of the way to the lake is uphill minus towards the end where you drop back down to the water. The “lake” is almost more of a slowed down widened river, not exactly a lake. But I wouldn’t let that stop you from making the trip as the hike and destination are sights to see and so worth it. As for most trails, try to go early. We got to the trailhead at 10am and it was super easy to find a spot. Came out around 1:30 and the parking lot was packed. And naturally we met a ton of people going in while we were coming out.

Very crowded on a Saturday. Beautiful trail, okay lake. More like a wide spot in the river.

This is a great trail for experienced and inexperienced hikers. The trail was a little muddy and rocky at parts, but was very well maintained. There are beautiful landscapes, views, and plants along the way. If you bring a dog, water is available along most of the trail. This trail took us about 3 hours, but that was including some stops along the way. I highly recommend this day hike!

It was a great trail! Took us about 3 hours to finish and it was definitely worth it! Great views from the beginning to the end. Not the best view at the end of trail but overall was really good.

Great trail! My cousin and I hiked it today 6/9/20 and it was a pretty easy hike and we have almost no experience. Very clean trail and lots of great views of the mountains the whole way. Little bit muddy in spots but nothing too bad if you don’t mind hopping on some rocks.

6/5/20 Great trail! There were so many gorgeous wildflowers! I camped at the lake. People before me are not “leaving no trace.” I found exposed toilet paper and food garbage. I packed out what I could. Lots of flies and mosquitos but the water is really high so it makes sense. There are several spots on the trail that you can’t really avoid getting a little wet and/or muddy, but all are passable with some creativity and adventure. Fair amount of traffic, but less than 50 people. Some backpackers told me they saw bear cubs in the meadow up past the top of the pass. I saw-a garter snake. There’s a nice little spot with huge boulders and tree cover to camp and several fire pits at the lake. Please pack out trash!!!

Nice hike. Easy to get to on paved roads. Wish people would leash their dogs though and pick up after them. But it’s a good hike with a lot of bang for the buck...roaring rapids, gorgeous views and a beautiful lake destination.

This was our first hike in a Montana. We went on May 17 and it was perfect. Some sections of the trail I would call moderate difficulty. My 5 year old and another member of our group needed to rest after these sections. You get to walk beside a roaring river, through the woods and meadows and to a gorgeous lake with a mountain backdrop. It’s the full package. It definitely got more busy as the day went on so get there early if you want a quiet trail.
