Mt Thoma Lookout is a 7.1 mile out and back trail located near Polebridge, Montana that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips.
The trail starts off as a double track that eventually turns into a single track that meanders along a stream as you go up. Lots of mosquitoes out so bring your repellent. The views from the top are amazing! As we were driving in a black bear crossed the road about 100 yards away from the trailhead. If you have a low clearance vehicle I recommend coming in via North Fork rd. We came in via North Fork rd and tried to leave in the direction of Fortine and turned around after a few miles because the road was very rocky, rutted, potholed, and slow going for my 2014 Subaru Impreza WRX.
