What an incredible hike! Very gentle climb for the amount of elevation you gain. About an hour from Helena makes it a great choice for a longer hike. Incredible views - you can see all the way to the Rockies.

Still has quit a bit of snow on the way up to the summit. The summit itself was clear. Made it up to the top but didn't drop down to Edith Lake as it was partially frozen and the descent was still covered in snow. Beautiful views in all directions as you get above treeline.

Big payday at the summit in form of hundred mile views in all directions. Watch the summer weather, electrical storms come up fast. Edith Lake (I think that's right) a mile or so further north and quite a drop is a good overnight. that trail has had lots of new work and is very pleasant. The FS roads to get there were in good shape, although the last mile could present a challenge for 2wd lower clearance. Lots of blue grouse at timberline.
