My nine year old daughter and I hiked this trail last weekend. It was a good challenge for both of us. Great trail. Awesome views. First part of trail was nicely shaded. We will do it again!

You can tack those an additional two miles (12.4 miles total) to this hike as if you start at the sign at the right side of the road for Blackmore Lake Trail when you are headed toward Hyalite Reservoir. That said, nothing stops a person from driving directly to Hyalite Reservoir and parking in the first parking lot next to the outhouses and boat launch to start their hike from there. From that location, you will be closer to the 10.6 miles round-trip as listed per AllTrails. There is signage at the parking area saying 0.4 miles to Blackmore Trail at which point you reach and intersection in the trail and need to veer to the left for Blackmore Lake and Blackmore Peak. This is a fabulous and well-maintained trail though one must expect to work a little for the summit. While this trail is listed difficult, it certainly is a well-groomed trail and deserves a visit if you are on the fence about it. Saw gorgeous fields of wildflowers this past Friday but certainly hit the afternoon weather patterns, so try to start and end this one early as you are high up and we'll exposed in the event of a lightning and or rain/hail storm as per our experience this past Friday. Bring some layers for the top of the peak as it can get chilly up there! Fantastic views!

Hike isn’t 10.8 mi, but closer to 12.4mi, but a great hike, great views and a really good trail. Probably my favorite trail in the Bozeman area.

From the Blackmore parking lot it’s 12.4 miles. Really pretty with the wildflowers blooming. Only two small patches of snow to cross.

An awesome hike rewarding its conquerors with stunning views from all directions. Shuffled up there after my noon class on a Friday to watch the sunset and it did not disappoint.

Definitely wouldn't consider this an easy trail.. easy to the lake but man its tough up to the peak! pretty the whole way though, worth the hike!

If you're looking for a challenging day hike near Bozeman, Blackmore Peak is a great option. The trail starts out fairly easy through thick conifer forest and winds down to Blackmore Lake where you will get a nice view of the peak you’re about to ascend. the lake is easy to get to and a great pitstop for dogs before continuing to the peak! five star rating is for the peak- it is a must! so beautiful and green- we saw mountain goats and the 360 degree views are amazing. about 14-15 miles round trip, but moderate difficulty as far as peaks go.

Absolutely stunning from the top. Met an older gentlemen in his 70's that has made it to the summit over 80 times

Fairly simple hike to the lake, starting off we got lost and turned around on the trails but eventually found the right trail to get up to the lake.

Easy to the lake, the summit would add much more of a challenge. I hiked this in July and the bugs were terrible! Bring bug spray. The signage is a bit confusing and the trail is not well-defined from the start. There is tall grass/ plants in the middle of the trail for about .5 miles.

Easy hike to lake. Recommend trying the Summit

Easy hike through forest then drops down to the lake. The day can be made even better by keep on going up the trail to the summit of Mount Blackmore, all though a lot tougher (will add about 3000 feet elevation gain), but really is worth it and would be rated 5 stars.

Nice hike (mostly uphill) to a pretty lake, lots of wildflowers. Very rocky trail with frequent spots for you to have a break from the sun when hot. Would not rate this one as easy-moderate, moderate at the least. BRING BUG REPELLENT ! The biting flies will feast on you. The hike to the lake is worth it and if you aren't too tired the trail continues on to the mountain.

I have played up Hylite for the past 20 years. This was my first time up to Blackmore Lake. The trail is well mantained with areas of rock and roots. There is a steady climb for most of the trail before you drop into the lake. The trail continues on to Mt. Blackmore.
