For an easy outing beyond the Missoula city limits, try the trail at Maclay Flat. The path is wide, level and surfaced to accommodate wheelchairs. It takes you along the Bitterroot River and through adjacent meadows, with some great views of mountains around Missoula. (missoulian.com website)

Nice short walk but the mosquitoes were terrible, had to run the last half of the trail to escape them

Good to go, all clear! The river trail is clear, although it’s cut about 2 feet back from the flood, which makes it interesting. A little saturated still towards the end, but good! At the big puddle the trail is clear to the left and then you can wade through the small stream after that or you can take the tall grass trail to the right, which I did. The rest of the way is clear. Remember Bug spray!! Not even a spot of mud on my dogs feet!

Great hike! Portions of the trail were flooded, but that is to be expected this time of the year. Mosquitos were beginning to bite around the water. Had a great time with family on this one!

Very pleasant and mostly quiet hike. Dogs are required to be on leash on this trail but beware for the owners who believe the rules don't apply to them. I encountered 3 separate, loose dogs and was forced to pepper spray one dog who got aggressive with my dog. Otherwise a very pretty and easy hike.

I often do this loop with my little dog who loves this area as much as I do. I start going right from the parking area so I'll end up by the river. Great views, not too many people, and there are nice informational signs posted throughout for some learning opportunities.

Just a great walk/hike! Quite level and good gravel surface. Wonderful views of the Ponderosa Pines and meadows with surrounding foothills to the mountains. Nice stretch along the Bitterroot River too.

Easy walk or even run. Very peaceful and enjoyable. Went today around 5, not a lot of people, sun still out, and was overall a good trail. Would definitely go again!

Great place to do some birding, just get out or dip in the river. Moose can bee seen in mid summer occassionally. Pick up after your dog please.

Beautiful, easy trail with river access. Take the 2 Mike loop. Great for leashed dogs and families. We start down the right side and end up skipping rocks in the river at the end every time with our kiddos.

Perfect for a quick hike with your child and or dog(s). We've completed this multiple times, since our son loves to go down to throw rocks in the river.

Nice easy walk that I take several times a week. About 40 minutes is needed to complete the larger of the 2 loops. Vault toilets at the parking lot. Varied assortment of birds to watch through the year. This is a heavily used area with lots of dogs. Ok with a stroller.

Great for a quick walk with the dog. Has access to the river and small beaches, benches and picnic tables. Also, Blue Mtn folf course is just across the road. Heavily used and not strenuous or lengthy for avid backpackers looking for an adventure.
