Half of this trail is a backroad I would take the 74 GMC back in the the mid 90s
A nice little trail for staying within the city and getting a good workout in. It’s mostly shaded area through the woods. Views at the top are good. There’s a confusing “short cut” that All Trails follows but I think you could stay on the main path just fine and make it to the top where the nice overlooks are.
better to start at bottom (i.e. not visitor center) since the payout ( a view of Kalispell) is at the top. otherwise it's a slow steady down and climb in some nice woods though you can always see houses in the distance
We went on a lot of tangents, exploring the area. We loved this trail! I did it solo with 3 boys (12, 10 & 8) and they managed it just fine. Definitely steep in many areas so that I can see the reason for a moderate rating. We will be back again to explore some more!
