Jewel Basin via Switchback Trail 725

Perfect day, well marked trails. even though many cars at the trailhead, the hike was still private. Beautiful Vista of Flathead lake and valley. Return via Alpine 7 trail making it a nice loop hike rather than out and back

great trail. great views. coming back with better shoes!

Nice trail through a series of mild switch backs. The switchbacks are not very steep, as these things go. Finished by heading up to Mt. Aeneas. I'd probably leave from Misery Camp trailhead if I did this again, and do the loop in Jewel Basin. Dirt round to the trailhead wasn't horrible, but it was slow going.

Absolutely fantastic! I would give it seven stars if I could.

After we got to the trails intersection, we went on up the Mt. Aeneas ridgeline. Gorgeous views and mountain goats!

This trail was a blast. It’s very challenging with a consistently steep grade through all of the switchbacks. Bring pants and good boots. Very thin in spots due to lots of growth. Had to climb over about 6-8 trees, which were easy. All of which were towards the end of the trail. The views around 2.5 miles where the other trails merge towards the top are the best. Once you get to this point, there’s a steep trail to your left. Walk to the top of that and look around. I’d highly recommend this trail to anyone capable of doing it. Over 90 switchbacks and they take up most of your time on the trail.

Lots of fallen trees and snow for the last quarter of the hike. Not sure if I made it all the way up or not since we lost the trail in the snow, but the view was worth it. Definitely be prepared to pace this one if you aren’t used to a higher elevation. Limited parking to get to the start of the trail.

Very nice hike!! Made it to the top with no run ins with snow which I was a little worried about! Highly recommend for a nature trip. Only came across like two trees in the trail which were easy to get around

Hiked on May 2, 2020. Tons of downed trees. We eventually hit enough snow that we decided to head back. I think we ended up doing about 2/3 of the trail. More trees may be cleared by now.

Great hike-incredible views! There were quite a few trees down on the trail, but most either had trails around them or were small enough to step over.The last 1/4 mile or so was snow covered. June 5.

Hiked this December 30th, it was overcast and it was eerily beautiful. Most of the hike we were in the clouds. We couldn’t finish the hike due to a lot of fallen trees covering a huge part of the switchbacks and had to go off trail. Lots of snow. Lots of animal tracks.

We were so excited for this hike, but unfortunately there were down trees on each switchback. We made it a little more than half way and decided to turn back because we were 50 or so switchbacks up and continued to have to crawl through it all. Hopefully it’s cleared soon! Just wanted to leave the review to give everyone a heads up that are planning to attempt it!

Great views for little effort. We ran into 4 mountain goats that sauntered along the trail. The parking lot gets full, we started at 7 am and when we returned at 10:30 it was packed.

Hiked September 2017. Loved this hike- great views, pretty lakes at the end and the trail all to ourselves.

Absolutely stunning area. There are plenty of different trails that can be hiked. No overnight permits required, but make sure you have bear spray. We hiked down to Black Lake and camped out near the lake. The wildflowers were beautiful and the trails are very well maintained and my 4 month old puppy enjoyed the entire hike with us. Highly recommend and we will be returning!
