This Island Lake Trail depicted is on private land and should not be in this app. The lake itself is not on private land, but right on the border between the ranch and USFS. There is another route from the northwest, available on topo maps, all on public land and you will be legal.

I'm a little confused... we planned to do this hike, and used the Directions tab above. This led us to the entrance to Island Lake Ranch Road, which is private, gated, and according to their neighbors, has been closed to the public for decades. Looking at the AllTrails map, there is no other access to this trailhead than this ranch road. Perhaps other reviewers knew the owners or confused this lake with another? Please clarify. Thanks.

I loved the views! Saw lots of wildflowers and an elk, the road up is rough definitely a jeep, truck of off-road vehicle needed to get the the trail head. Once you're there the hike is easy! Great fishing too, there's a little canoe that stays at the lake

Absolutely beautiful! Some parts are pretty intense but totally worth it.

Nice hike with good fishing. Option to continue along trail to Silver Lake or bush-wack along Huckleberry Creek to Huckleberry, Princes, or Avalanche Lake (none for faint of heart). Have gotten to lake on snowshoes but would not recommend to beginners.
