Fun hike if you have time and energy! Getting to the lakes wasn't too hard, there are spots that can get tricky because the trail isn't marked too well. if you want to get to the top I would rate this as Hard. if you follow the right side past the first two lakes it will bring you close to a ridge line, you will have to be smart of how to get to it because there wasn't a trail. once on the ridge you will have to do some boldering for a good portion of the ridge. If you wanted to follow the lakes up then go through the pass you can, but make sure on the first to lakes to stay on the right side, the left side of those lakes are hard and steep! Going to the top will test you, but it is worth it!

Trail disappeared in the snow and mass of fallen trees near the top when I tried last October. Turned back without ever seeing the lakes but the hike was beautiful anyway. Trail split a few times with no markings. Lower part of the trail was clear. Be aware that weather at the trailhead and weather at the top can be very different.

Awesome hike with a beautiful lake. I ended summited Mount Jefferson and Hollowtop Mountain so I didn't spend too much time, but a beautiful area. Didn't see too many people while I was there.

It's an amazing hike with incredible views!! I tried climbing up to the top of hollow top mountain from the lake,, but I only made it up about halfway till it was almost a vertical climb.. so I turned back!!

Great trail, beautiful scenery and views.
Encountered snow on trail that required a turnaround about 3 miles into the lakes.
Nice steady grade, a few fallen trees across the trail but pretty easy to get around. A little concentration required crossing the creek around the 2 mile mark.
Nice May Sunday for a hike.

There are multiple ways to do this hike. I did a loop that totaled almost twelve miles. In early July of 2014 there was still some snow on the ground on the final approach to the lake. (Three weeks later it was gone.) Plan to start early in the summer to avoid the heat while you are going up. The lake will then be more enjoyable. Also, lots of horses use these trails, so there will be manure, horse flies, deer flies, and mosquitos. Plan accordingly.

Good trail with good views and more lakes to explore if you still have the energy.
