Hollow Top Lake is a 10.1 mile out and back trail located near Pony, Montana that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and horses and is best used from July until September. Horses are also able to use this trail.
There are multiple ways to do this hike. I did a loop that totaled almost twelve miles. In early July of 2014 there was still some snow on the ground on the final approach to the lake. (Three weeks later it was gone.) Plan to start early in the summer to avoid the heat while you are going up. The lake will then be more enjoyable. Also, lots of horses use these trails, so there will be manure, horse flies, deer flies, and mosquitos. Plan accordingly.
Good trail with good views and more lakes to explore if you still have the energy.
Awesome!!!! So rewarding once you get to the lake! The trail is well maintained and very peaceful.
