Getting There

There are two ways to access Fairy Lake. The route shown here has you parking at the lower trailhead and traversing a couple miles along Fairy Creek eventually reaching Fairy Lake. This trail can either be hiked, mountain biked, or off-road driven. Alternatively, you could continue driving up Forest Service Road 74 to the Fairy Lake Trailhead. From there it is a very short walk to Fairy Lake. This route can also be found on AllTrails. Please note that the road to the trailhead is very rough and muddy. Depending on the time of year it might require a 4WD vehicle with good clearance. The route shown on this page provides an alternative route in case the Fairy Lake Trailhead farther up is inaccessible because of conditions.

Gorgeous hike. The road getting there was icy and steep. There’s lots of snow on the trail now, but it was quiet and beautiful.

Last bit of road to Fairy Lake was super icy and our Grand Cherokee couldn't make it up (and we saw 2 other cars stuck/sliding around). Had to park about 1.5 miles back from the trailhead. Beautiful lake though! Didn't need snowshoes to get to the lake, but microspikes were helpful!

I did this trail 8/14/2020 with my 11 month old. We started before the sun came up and it took no time at all. It was a Friday, and we didnt run into any bikers, but like I said we started super early and got back out before lunch time. The lake was very nice. I didn't realize there was a campground right there lol. so the lake was much busier then the trail but that was alright.

We didn’t even make it to the lake with how bad this road was. We were in a Jeep and it was still the worst road I’ve ever been on. We passed a car that fell off the side and the road was blocked by the tow truck so we had to turn around. There were also horseflies and deerflies everywhere around here. I’m sure the lake is beautiful if you can make it there without falling off, but be very very cautious if you attempt this!

Nice fairly easy trail, though muddy in some spots from ATV use. Lots of flies on the walk up at this time of year but didn’t really bother us. Beautiful lake. Recommend being up and out early- we passed swarms of cars just arriving around noon (maybe driving up to the lot which is the other way to access the lake) but there’s really not much room at the top for that many.

The lake is worth the hike - few muddy areas - still snow along trail just before lake. It is an ATV trail - so some traffic possible

Fairy Creek Trail was average - steady incline the whole way, pretty thick forest on either side of the trail the whole way up. Nothing too amazing...however, Fairy Lake makes this hike worthwhile. The beautiful turquoise water was a pretty incredible reward, especially against the backdrop of the mountains. We hiked at the end of June and the trail was wet with snow in a few spots but was definitely navigable.

There’s a little bit of snow and mud higher up but nothing too bad. Beautiful lake with snow still up on the peaks near the lake.

5/28/20 There was still a lot of snow and had to return halfway. But the views were spectacular before the snow. Also the road was closed to get to the trail head so we hiked for about an hour to get to the trail head.

Went on 5/16/20 and it was an extremely hard climb. Half of the Trail is completely covered in 6 ft of snow so it made going up very difficult. Must wear appropriate hiking/snow shoes and the lake was completely covered in snow. Very steep climb, but the views are gorgeous. I would just wait until June or July when the snow melts so you can see the lake.
