This is a nice loop with great views. The trail is a bit hard to find at times. If you hike up to windy pass and want to go a little farther you can continue south on the Gallatin Crest Trail to Eaglehead Mountain and come out at the Golden Trout Lakes trailhead. Be careful when you reach Eaglehead because the Crest trail heads strait south and you need to veer west and continue down the ridgeline to golden trout lakes.

Portal Creek road sucks but this is a great hike with some of the best views I've seen from eaglehead mountain.
