Great choice to start early (6am) and at Sundrift Gorge. But if there aren’t 2 cars to shuttle from Siyah Bend, just turn around at the top of the pass and head back down to Sundrift. The trail after the turn-off to Siyah Bend, all the rest of the way back to the trailhead, isn’t very nice. Overgrown, burnt out and not worth the extra miles.

Nice trail a lot of vegetation so the long pants comment is solid. I put some leggings on under my shorts. I only did 6 out of 9 miles since I was hiking alone, there were no other parties, I saw several piles of scat, and I’m a scaredy-cat. Still beautiful and worth the hike. Grateful to have made it out there today!

St Mary’s and Virginia Falls are awesome...trail is a little overgrown so if that bothers you wear pants. Definitely worth seeing!

Easy hike, although trail is not the best. There is some overgrowth in areas, so pants are a good idea. The waterfalls are okay. The St. Mary and Virgina waterfalls are more spectacular.

Easy hike down from the Gunsight Pass trailhead off of the Going to the Sun road. These small falls and rapids offer a gorgeous, relaxing stop whether as your destination or a waypoint along the longer Gunsight Pass trail. The swirling rapids and deep turquoise water are surrounded by plenty of flat, open space to put down your pack and soak in the relaxing sights and sounds.

We actually started at the Jackson Glacier overlook. Nice hike through the forest and through lots of huckleberry bushes. Lower part is right along Randolph creek. This adds about 2 miles to the hike., but it was nice as no one else was on this segment of the trail. Using the Glacier free shuttles is definitely the way to go

Backpacking

We did the entire Gunsight Pass Trail over 3.5 days. Awesome views! Landscape changed completely with every pass we climbed. Day hiked up to and camped at Sperry Campsite with views all the way down to MacDonald lake. Tough climb but well worth it! Day two hiked over Lincoln Pass and Gunsight Pass. Kicked our butts but awesome. Camped two night at Gunsight Lake. Great swimming! Took half day excursion up to Jackson and Blackfoot Glaciers before hiking. Lots of elevation gain on this trail but highly recommended if ever in Glacier NP!

Trail is fairly easy though very muddy. The trail to the falls is .6mi ea way and VERY over grown but VERY worth it! 9.8mi round trip

Great hike with breath taking water falls, lake, and river views. Pretty good amount of traffic so wildlife opportunities are likely reduced.

There’s actually 4 waterfalls on this hike. We skipped Virginia Falls due to time and body constraints. Who would think walking through a forest burnt out area would be so interesting!! Many reports of bears. And yes - we saw one - get this - walking on a bike path along Rt. 2 on our way into the park, St. Mary’s Falls area was crowded but the portion from Jackson Glacier overlook to the intersection of the trail to St. Mary’s had the least hikers of any of other trails we were on all week.

Showed up at 7:30am, and parking lot was about half full. Being on the eastern side of the divide, the temperature increased quickly with the sunrise. As others mentioned, insect repellent was critical for this path. The final mile to the falls was very overgrown (5' high in some spots), but the trail was still identifiable. You're treated to some mountainous scenery along the trail, and the falls are breathtaking!
